An Alternatives Presentation for replacement of Brattleboro BF 2000(28), Town Highway 2 (VT Route 9), Bridge 54 over the Whetstone Brook will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, beginning at 6:15 PM in the Selectboard Meeting Room located in the Municipal Center at 230 Main Street, 2nd Floor Suite 212 in Brattleboro, VT. This is the bridge that is located on Western Avenue (VT Route 9) just west of the intersection with Melrose Street. The meeting will be held by the Vermont Agency of Transportation (VTrans) and the Town of Brattleboro.

The Brattleboro Planning Commission will meet on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 6:00 pm in the Hanna Cosman Room at the Brattleboro Municipal Center (230 Main Street). The Municipal Center will be open to the public with limited seating spaced six feet apart and face coverings will be required in the meeting. Chase Street – Notice of Road Closure and Water Service Interruption

There will be an interruption of water service on lower Oak ST and Chase ST from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3, 2021, while Utilities personnel can replace valves in the intersection of Oak ST and Chase ST.

Work will begin on Monday, August 2, when the intersection will be closed for utilities crew to dig up the old valves and will remain closed until the work is completed on Tuesday, August 3. Residents at #6 – #26 Chase ST should use Forest ST for access and residents at #30 – #49 Chase ST will be able to use Linden ST for access in both directions.

Chase Street Water Valve Repair

On Wednesday, July 28, Utilities Crews will be working to repair a water valve on Chase Street at the intersection with Oak Street.  The work will begin at 7:00 am and will continue though 5:00 pm.  

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during this time period.

Brattleboro DPW Road Work Update

The Department of Public Works continues to have crews out in several areas of town working on road repairs following the severe rainstorm on July 17.  

Motorists and residents are asked to continue to use caution on roadways when approaching crews and equipment working on these repairs and to expect delays.  

Hinesburg Road

The stone culvert failed at the intersection of Hinesburg Road and Melchen Road.  The road will remain closed for several weeks while repairs take place.

Brattleboro Summer Paving Schedule 2021

Monday, July 19th, D.M.I. Paving (a contractor of the town) will be starting our summer paving project. Cold Planning and paving operations will be taking place on Highland ST, Central ST, Pearl ST, Thomas ST, Pellet ST, Blakeslee ST and White Birch AVE. Weather permitting, work is expected to happen between 7 am and 5 pm, Monday thru Friday. On street parking will not be permitted during work hours. The project is expected to take approximately two weeks. 


Help Us Understand Housing Needs in Brattleboro

The Town of Brattleboro is conducting a housing survey to help the Town and its partners create housing solutions to address pressing housing needs. Your contribution to the study of housing needs is very important. Findings from the survey will be incorporated into a Housing Action Plan that is expected to be completed this fall. In addition to residents of Brattleboro, property owners and those who would like to live in Brattleboro but have had trouble finding housing are encouraged to take the survey.


Brattleboro Planning Commission To Release Downtown Plan For Review

The Brattleboro Planning Commission announces the release of the Downtown Plan. This Plan outlines a vision for placemaking and public space improvements to attract and retain businesses and residents. It looks at pedestrian and bicycle improvements, stormwater and landscaping, and how arts and cultural activities can enliven and revitalize public spaces.

In mid- to late 2019, a series of activities were held to engage the public. Surveys, walking tours, demonstration projects, and open studios were all used to allow the public to share ideas and aspirations for downtown. The Downtown Plan presents a starting point to help envision how to create an active, vibrant, and sustainable downtown.


Housing Coalition to Host Landlord Summit

The Housing Coalition of Southeastern Vermont will host a free, virtual Landlord Summit on Thursday, June 24th from 8:00 am to 9:30 am. People interested in attending can register at tinyurl.com/93ruu7tk.

The purpose of the Landlord Summit is to educate residential property owners about available financial resources and new housing policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly new opportunities connected with the recently-passed American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). These resources include mortgage assistance, rental assistance, and an anticipated second round of the grants for rental property rehabilitation. The Summit will also include an update from the Town of Brattleboro on recent changes to zoning policies designed to promote development of new rental units.

Hinesburg Road Paving

Bazin Brothers Trucking, Inc (a contractor of the town) will be paving Hinesburg Road between Quails Hill and the power lines (near #888 Hinesburg Rd.) The work will take place between 7am and 6pm on Friday, June 11, Monday, June 14 and Tuesday, June 15.  There will be alternating one lane traffic in the area during paving.  Motorists should expect delays in the area and seek alternate routes.
