Public Meeting for the Brattleboro Walk/Bike Action Plan – Thursday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m.

The Walk/Bike Action Plan has generated over 200 comments on the challenges and opportunities for better walking and biking in Brattleboro through an interactive map that can be accessed at www.brattleboro.org in the News section or at https://arcg.is/1Oe04q.

Please join us at a virtual public meeting on Thursday, September 22 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm for a discussion of the locations in Brattleboro most in need of attention from a pedestrian or bicyclist’s perspective – and some potential solutions. This will be the first of two public meetings for the Walk/Bike Action Plan. The goal is to share what we have heard so far and start determining how best to prioritize and fund the projects and maintenance required to keep bicyclists, pedestrians, and transit riders safe and comfortable as they get around town. Although virtual, this will be an interactive meeting that includes two-way discussion about potential targeted solutions through live polling and audience questions.


South Main Street Paving

Beginning Tuesday, September 6, All States Construction (a contractor of the town) will be milling and paving in the area along South Main Street.  This work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.  

The streets being paved include South Main Street (from Canal Street to Old Guilford Road), Estabrook Street, Lawrence Street, Valgar Street, Cotton Mill Hill (between the Cotton Mill Complex and Route 142) and Old Guilford Road (from South Main Street to University Way).  Crews will be working between 7:00am and 5:00pm, Monday through Friday.  There will be no on-street parking during this project and motorists should expect delays in the area and seek alternate routes.  


Brattleboro Planning Commission Hosting Two Neighborhood Walking Tours to Help Plan for Middle Housing

The Brattleboro Planning Commission has been actively working to understand the housing needs of our community and promote housing infill in the centers of Brattleboro and West Brattleboro. The Town received a Bylaw Modernization Grant from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development to support that ongoing work.

The Planning Commission will be hosting two community walks to explore the form and density of housing in several neighborhoods. We will be discussing the size and shapes of lots, the distance between buildings, where buildings are placed on lots, the types of residential buildings and number of units in a building. The goal is to learn about the form, character and density of neighborhoods to improve our understanding of the opportunities for and constraints on providing more places for people to live in our community. Show the Town Where You Want to See Walking and Biking Improvements with New Public Input Map

The Town of Brattleboro is embarking on a new plan that will collaboratively develop recommended improvements to its bicycle and pedestrian facilities. The Walk/Bike Action Plan will draw on recent studies, including the 2018 Downtown Plan, Route 30 Multi-Modal Gateway Plan, Route 9 Continuous Bicycle Facility Feasibility Plan, and the Brattleboro Town Plan. It will weave together the pertinent recommendations from previous studies with local projects currently under construction or planned, and provide other solutions that will further connect the town’s evolving network of sidewalks, bike facilities, and shared-use paths.

New Hydrant for Elliot Street Tuesday

On Tuesday, June 21, the Utilities Division will be installing a new hydrant in the area of 195 Elliot ST.  Elliot ST will be closed in the area beginning at 7:00 am through approximately noon.  Stewart Place and Elliot ST addresses up to #186 can be accessed from the east end of Elliot ST and addresses #190 and higher can be accessed from the west end of Elliot ST. 

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during this time.
