Anyone have updates on a possible date for the opening of a new restaurant which might be called The Fat Crow in Newfane? It’s being built by the owners of the eatery on that site on Route 30, just south of the village, where their former place was lost in a fire. The new building looks close to being ready.
The Brattleboro Town Assessor will lodge the 2018 Abstract Grand List today, May 24, 2018. The Brattleboro Listers will hold grievance hearings in the Town Office at 230 Main Street starting Monday June 11, 2018. Applications for a hearing are available at the Assessor’s Office or online at www.Brattleboro.org on the Assessor’s page. Applications should be physically received in the Assessor’s office by 5:00 pm June 11, 2018 to schedule a hearing.
A workshop, sponsored by the Brattleboro Development and Credit Corporation, will help small businesses and nonprofits launch their own websites. This six-hour workshop, presented by Putney-based Sustainable Digital founder Bob Lawson, will be held in Brattleboro on June 5 and 12 from 5:30 to 8:30 each evening.
In observance of Memorial Day, all Brattleboro Town offices will be closed on
Monday, May 28, 2018, with the exception of emergency services.
Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday, May 27 and Monday, May 28, 2018. All other violations will be enforced.
We’re interested in forming a small coworking space in Brattleboro for the rest of us who live in or near Brattleboro. Coffee shops have become too loud for us and we’d like to have our own space that is quiet and dependable for working.

The Brattleboro VFW located at 40 Black Mountain Road sometimes hosts weddings and parties in their facility. I would like to start a binder of local businesses that are into the wedding or parties business…..do you make cakes, take professional photos, DJ, do flower arrangements, make decoarations, etc? Clark ST will be closed on Friday, May 18, 2018, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The road will be closed in the area of 81 Clark ST while Utilities crews repair a sewer line. Local residents can access residences at the northern end of Clark ST via Lawrence ST.
Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during the construction period. Signage will be in place to remind motorists of the road closure.
Brattleboro’s Town Plan revision was adopted by the Brattleboro Selectboard at Tuesday’s meeting. It was one of many items in a packed agenda that included financing of the new fire truck, preliminary design work on a possible police carport, and likely train station improvements.
The usually dull Parking Fund overview was spiced up by a request for a comprehensive look at the parking system, with public discussions, prior to approving any capital improvements. The FY19 Solid Waste Budget was introduced, finances were discussed, goals were adopted, and we learned that Brattleboro has a new Indian restaurant.
Finally, Brattleboro’s two confidential employees received a 2% raise, along with other non-union positions.
The Brattleboro Selectboard has a full agenda for their next meeting, having postponed a number of matters from their previous meeting. Financing of the fire truck purchase, improvements to the new police station and Union Station, and reviewing Solid Waste and Parking budgets are among the topics.
Brattleboro’s Town Plan gets a second public hearing and possible adoption if no one objects. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during Public Participation.
The fourth installment of the 2017 Real Estate and Personal Property Taxeswill be due onMay 15, 2018 by 5:00 PM. Payments made after May 15, 2018 will have an additional 1% interest, as well as an 8% penalty added to the unpaid balance.

On Friday, May 18 the community is invited to explore the floodplain restoration of a 12-acre parcel of land along the Whetstone Brook at a pair of events. At 5:15 P.M., the Brattleboro Conservation Commission and Vermont River Conservancy will host a site walk of the property which is located at 250 Birge Street in Brattleboro. The public is invited to walk the site and learn more about the floodplain restoration project and site conditions from Sue Fillion, Brattleboro Town Planner and Steve Libby, Executive Director at the Vermont River Conservancy.

Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 6:00pm in the Brattleboro Historical Society on the 3rd floor of the Municipal Building at 230 Main St, Suite 301.(There is an elevator by the back door).
Hamilton Road will be closed on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. This closure will be weather permitting. The road will be closed between house # 146 Hamilton Rd and #311 Hamilton Rd to replace culverts. No through traffic will be allowed as the Highway Division will be excavating across the street to install the culverts.
The Town of Brattleboro Water Department’s annual Consumer Confidence Report / Water Quality Report for 2017 is now available. This report can be viewed on-line at www.brattleboro.org or written copies are available at the Brattleboro Municipal Center in the offices of the Town Manager and in the hallway near the Town Clerk’s Office.

The Brattleboro Selectboard scheduled too many weighty issues for their Tuesday meeting at the Municipal Center. As the meeting went on, agenda items were jettisoned in repeated attempts to keep the length of the meeting somewhat reasonable.
Those issues that were discussed were discussed in detail. The board learned about the Utilities Fund budget and possible rate changes in coming years, discussed goals for the coming year, received a presentation on the results of a Downtown Parking Survey, and held a public hearing on the Town Plan revision. They attended to Department of Transportation paperwork, settled a lawsuit, changed the name of a street, applied for grants, and more.
Also, a mouse.
Brattleboro’s Police Department might be getting a carport. It’s one of the final recommendations of the Police-Fire Facilities Committee and will be up for discussion at Tuesday’s meeting of the Brattleboro Selectboard.
The board will learn of improvements to the Union Station train station in the near future. They will discuss the FY19 Utilities Budget, initiate final designs for the waste process water line at Pleasant Valley, hold a public hearing on the revised Town Plan, learn about the downtown parking study, review the Solid Waste budget for FY19, and more. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation, too.
