The 2020 Brattleboro Fire Department calendars that the VFW Auxiliary #1034 produced are now available for $10.00 a piece. You can purchase them at Central Fire Station on Elliot Street or the Brattleboro VFW on Black Mountain Road.
There’s a new business in town, but that Town is Brookline, Vermont. Living 25 minutes away from Brattleboro may not seem like an inconvenience, but life happens. Especially during the winter, living in a rural part of the state can be incredibly scenic, but not necessarily convenient. The Brookline Go-getter offers customers a new way to free up some time and have peace of mind. The goal here is to encourage folks to have more time to make memories and live, and focus less time on running errands and rushing around.
At 10:25am Engine 2 & Utility 8 responded to the Power Sub Station just south of the Veterans’ Bridge for a reported transformer fire. Upon arrival they had a significant fire in a large power vault and transformer. An attack line was stretched to the area but the decision was made to let the fire burn due to high voltage electric equipment. Green Mountain Power arrived on the scene shortly after the arrival of the 1st fire apparatus and got the power killed to the sight and the fire burned out approximately 15 minutes after that.
Town Manager Peter Elwell will give the board a first look at the proposed FY21 budget at the next regular meeting of the Brattleboro Selectboard.
The board will also hear an update on the community marketing plan, learn about the downtown alliance work plan for the next year, join a opioid-related lawsuit, consider changes for Green Street traffic safety, upfit a pair of police vehicles, and more. You can bring up other things not currently on the agenda during public participation.

Have you heard? The Brookline Go-Getter is officially opening its doors November 4, 2019, just in time for your holiday needs. Based in Brookline, Vermont, services offered will include, grocery shopping, personal shopping, errand running, appointment setting, and other services. You can hire the Brookline Go-Getter to run errands and perform tasks between the Brookline/Newfane area and Brattleboro Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm. They do not, however, transport people or pets.

At 7:38am Central Dispatch received a call reporting smoke in the building at 929 Western Ave. A 1stalarm assignment consisting of Eng 2, Eng 4, Ladder 1 and Car 1 & 2 responded. At 7:41am Eng 4 reported there had been a fire in the bathroom of Apt 202 which was out, and they had a burn victim and requested an ambulance.

The DPW Utilities crew is working to correct a leak on a 16” water valve located on Marlboro Rd. Service interruptions were expected and warned for yesterday. Unanticipated circumstances will result in water service interruption today, October 22nd between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The area of water service interruption will be between #254 and #1205 Marlboro Rd.

A Brattleboro Selectboard quartet decided Tuesday night to proceed on a path toward suing opioid manufacturers and providers. The board didn’t see any need to spare local pharmacies from potential litigation, and wasn’t sure about suing local doctors.
The board continued their discussion of municipal broadband, bought winter salt and sand, heard a report on progress at WSWMD, and got a final financial report from retiring John O’Connor.

Delectable Mountain on Main Street is closing. A sign says December is the last month for this iconic fabric store.
At their next meeting, the Brattleboro Selectboard will decide if the Town will be joining Bennington in a lawsuit “to recover costs and damages from manufacturers, distributers, and retailers who have profited from the sale of opioids.” Town Attorney Bob Fisher will summarize the 175 page complaint and answer questions.
Health Insurance will be renewed for 2020, winter sand and road salt will be purchased, bulletproof vests will be funded, goals will be reviewed and an update from the solid waste district will be delivered. You can deliver your own items, not already on the agenda, during public participation.
