Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market for March 4th is Cancelled

Sad to say, but we have made the difficult decision to cancel tomorrow’s farmers market at the Winston Prouty Campus. The forecast for this storm with lots of snow and continuing well into the market day is just about the worst kind of timing!

We had been fortunate enough to avoid this scenario so far, but many of our vendors have already made the decision that they wouldn’t be taking the risk, and we don’t want you to take the risk of going out in that weather either.

Helpful Information for Brattleboro March 7 Town Meeting Day

Below is information that might be helpful to know for March 7th local elections. The Windham Southeast School District Annual Election of School Directors will be held in addition to the Annual Town Meeting Day elections.

The polling place for all three districts in Brattleboro is the American Legion, 32 Linden St., from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.

Masks are no longer required to enter the American Legion for voting, but they are certainly welcome and will be provided along with hand sanitizer.

Upper Dummerston Tree Removal

PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, March 2, the Town of Brattleboro Highway Division will be removing 3 hazardous trees on Upper Dummerston Rd, Senator Gannett Drive and the intersection with East Orchard Street.  The work is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am and continue through approximately 11:00 am.  There will be periods of one lane traffic and periods where the road will be completely closed for up to 20 minutes at a time.  Motorists should seek alternate routes and expect delays.

The Brattleboro Town Arts Committee will meet on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 5:00pm in the Community Meeting Room at the Brooks Memorial Library.

The Brattleboro Tree Advisory Committee will meet on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 4:15pm in the Hanna Cosman Meeting Room at the Municipal Center (230 Main Street).

Selectboard Meeting Notes – Daims RVs Are Rentals and Must Be Up To Code

A special hearing by the Brattleboro Selectboard to consider health violations cited at 16 Washington Street had much discussion by all concerned – except one key individual: the property owner. Kurt Daims didn’t attend his hearing, and the board did not look kindly on such an action.  He did issue a statement via BCS delivered to the board, but it wasn’t enough.

The new train station project was again described in detail, ARPA funds were discussed, the tree ordinance was adopted, and more.

Brattleboro Selectboard Meeting Agenda and Notes – February 21, 2023

The Brattleboro Selectboard will do a number of routine items at their next regular meeting – renew liquor and tobacco licenses, get updates on EMS and finances, grant and easement for the new train station project, discuss ARPA, and review RTM child care options.

The board will also take up an appeal to a health order for 16 Washington Street and adopt a revised tree ordinance. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.

Brattleboro Department of Public Works – Gravel Roads Warning

With warmer temperatures forecasted for the next few days, the Department of Public Works is expecting areas where deterioration will occur on some of our gravel roads.  Crews are conducting daily checks of the gravel roads and have completed work in preparation for this temperature swing.  Motorists who travel on the gravel roads should expect for areas of deterioration through the weekend.  We urge limited travel on these roads by vehicles, especially larger, heavier trucks which will allow residents safe access and the Town’s crews to keep these roads passable.  

Brattleboro Presidents’ Day Closings

In observance of Presidents’ Day, all Brattleboro Town offices will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2023, with the exception of emergency services.

Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Sunday and Monday, February 19 and February 20. All other violations will be enforced.

Brooks Memorial Library will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2020 as well.

Mountain Home Park Buyout Project: 8 Step Process Early Notice

Find attached an early notice for the evaluation of floodplain impacts for the Mountain Home Buyout project. The purpose of the 8 step process is to evaluate floodplain impacts from proposed projects and consider alternatives that would better protect floodplains and public and personal health and safety. This project will develop 26 home sites in Mountain Home Park. The sites will be developed with bulk purchased mobile homes. Twenty six households living in floodways and areas of deep flooding will be relocated to the new sites. Homes, roads, utilities, and foundations for the discontinued sites will be removed and the area will be placed under a conservation easement. Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro – Meet The Candidates

The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro is hosting a “Meet The Candidates” Forum to talk about the important issues facing our town. The event will be on February 16 from 6:00-7:30pm. Each candidate will answer questions on a variety of topics affecting Brattleboro and share their vision on how to move Brattleboro forward. The public will also have the opportunity to ask questions. All candidates have been invited. The event will be moderated. 

The Club is hosting this event to highlight public and youth engagement in the political process. All Brattleboro residents and interested parties – voters and youth –  are invited to attend this Forum. The Club is actively involved in the town, collaborating with many organizations, and continually working to improve downtown and beyond. The Club welcomes the candidates and looks forward to a robust discussion. ASL interpreter available.

Selectboard Meeting Notes: A Dream

Hi all. It’s a selectboard meeting night and usually I’d willingly volunteer to sit through the 3-4 hour thing and type up everything everyone has to say. It’s a bit hard for me to do tonight, though. I’m tired, slightly injured, and would rather tell you about a dream I had about the selectboard. It’s a good one!

I’m tired because I just got back from a weekend in Buffalo, cleaning out the family home of 80+ years. It was built by my grandparents, was the first place I was taken after being born, the site of many a Christmas and visit,  as well as family weddings, births, Thanksgiving dinners and more. 

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting Agenda

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 6:15pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Brattleboro Municipal Center at 230 Main Street. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Selectboard is expected to enter immediately into executive session to discuss contracts and labor relations agreements with employees. The public may also participate in the meeting over Zoom. The attached agenda contains information on how to access the meeting remotely, including the required “passcode.”  ASL interpreters will be available for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members.
