Brattleboro Fire Department Smoke Detector Reminder

The Brattleboro Fire Department would like to remind residents that when you turn back your clocks this Saturday night, Nov. 2, you should also change the batteries in all smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.

According to the department, 83% of all fire deaths occur in the home. The majority of those occur at night when people were asleep in homes without working smoke alarms.

Check Out The Amazing New Craft Store

We were happy to see that a new craft store had opened up on Main Street in between Mocha Joe’s and Sam’s. The name of this new business is The Crafty Cauldron, which would make you think it’s a Halloween store, but you’d be wrong. The store has a large assortment of different unique and homemade crafts plus natural skin care products. Some of the prices for the different crafts were affordable for those who have a minimal amount to spend.

The two owners are from Massachusetts and they have a long commute to get to Brattleboro. They are extremely nice and understanding.

Car Crash On Route 30 Under 91 Bridge. No Official Report Released Yet

Cars were diverted from route 30 today, due to an accident that occurred close to the construction project near the 91 overpass. My boy and I saw the black cadillac that was severely damaged,on the back of a tow truck. We asked the tow truck driver what happened to the car, and he replied that the car struck the ledge near the bridge. The top of the car was basically shredded and looked like it may have been travelling at a high rate of speed. Of course, a ledge is an unforgiving and immovable object, so maybe high speed was not a factor.

Peter Elwell – Brattleboro’s New Town Manager

If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. And then try one more time.

Such was the unintentional but rewarding path the Brattleboro Selectboard embarked upon almost 16 months ago in a search for a new Town Manager. Along the way, multiple searches were undertaken as selected candidates declined to take the offered position.

The searching has come to an end with a signed contract between the Town of Brattleboro and Peter Elwell, the current Town Manager of Palm Beach, FL being executed Thursday evening by the Selectboard.

Selectboard Chair David Gartenstein said that Elwell has the experience, perspective, vision, and attention to detail that the job requires. Elwell was in town for interviews last Friday and Monday.

I-91 Bridge Replacement Project: Possible Pile Driving This Weekend

Due to this week’s inclement weather, we may need to drive pile Saturday at Bridge 8 adjacent to Upper Dummerston. We understand that the noise from the pile driving may affect people in the area. Unfortunately, this is a situation we cannot avoid because of equipment availability limitations. We will wait until 9:00 AM to begin driving operations. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of October 26 – Road Closure

Upper Dummerston Road Closure Update: October 29th 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Based on weather forecasts, the closure of Upper Dummerston Road has been rescheduled to Wednesday, October 29th, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM to allow work on the new bridge that will span Upper Dummerston Road. If this closure needs to be rescheduled due to weather, we will inform stakeholders a minimum of 72 hours in advance after the team is able to confirm forecasted weather conditions are acceptable for work to proceed.

Selectboard Meeting Notes: How About $12.9 Million, Taxpayers?

The Police Fire Facilities Project will move forward with tentative plans to complete the three building projects for the new total of approximately $12.9 million, requiring a return to Representative Town Meeting to request the additional $7.9 million. First, though, there will be a short detour while the committee searches for a new property the police can call home.

The Brattleboro Selectboard approved changes to the Citizen Police Communications Committee mission, heard about upcoming changes as Connecticut River Transit and Deerfield Valley Transit Authority unite to become Southeast Vermont Transit, and voted to continue individual staffing level reviews rather than look at the entire staff structure as a whole. Also of note, a new Town Manager may be proclaimed within days.

How many police officers can be sworn in by a town clerk at once? Almost all of them. Read on for all the details.

Brattleboro Selectboard Special Meeting

It is anticipated that the Board will enter into executive session at 5:30pm to discuss the appointment or employment or evaluation of a public officer or employee.
