More Suspicious Calls

Today I received two calls -both on my cell phone – both looking for medical information. The first- from # 767 – 275-9061-was from someplace called ” National Medical Audits”. The second – about 2 hours later- was from # 356-490-5697. and from “US Medical Associates” Both calls were obviously from call centers – there was a lot of background noise-and both times the caller was a man with a very pronounced Indian accent.

2014 Brattleboro Budget In The Black

[Brattleboro, 1,000 years ago]

LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER KING DICK YIELDED THE MUNICIPALITY TO SIR DAVID: THE ONCE FEARSOME, FIRE-BREATHING BUDGET-DRAGON WAS SLAIN, THANKS TO AN IBRATTLEBORO POLL.

SOME SAY THE POLL HAD BEEN HACKED. BUT IT TURNS OUT THAT ONLY THE WOODEN FLAGPOLE IN FRONT OF THE IBRATTLEBORO COMPLEX HAD BEEN HACKED BY SOME KID WHO JUST HAD TO TRY OUT THE NEW HATCHET HE RECEIVED AS A GIFT FOR HIS 10TH BIRTHDAY.

Yet Another Telemarking Scam

I just received a new twist on the medical alert obnoxious telemarketing calls.  This one showed up in the caller ID as being from “Alert” so when I picked up, I just listened, didn’t say anything.  A robo call came on saying that a system had already been paid for, including shipping (“perhaps by a friend or relative”), and all I needed to do was press one to arrange for delivery.  I didn’t go down that road, but to be so bold as to say it is already paid for will undoubtedly get some people to respond.  How despicable can thes telemarketers get?  Please don’t answer!!  I ask that rhetorically.  I’m sure your responses would be just as nasty as the thoughts going through my head!

AIDS Day?

“There was no excuse, in this country and in this time, for the spread of a deadly new epidemic.  For this was a time in which the United States boasted the world’s most sophisticated medicine and the world’s most extensive public health system, geared to eliminate such pestilence form our national life. When the virus appeared, the world’s richest nation housed the most lavishly financed scientific research establishments-both inside the vast governmental health bureaucracy and in other institutions – to investigate new diseases and quickly bring them under control.”

– Journalist/ Historian Randy Shilts in ‘And The Band Played On.’

Eating Worms

I was just listening to actor George Takei (Mr. Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise) on the radio, as he related some stories of his childhood in which his family was interned in a California concentration camp.

He explained: “We (his family) were Americans. My mother was from Sacramento. My father was a San Franciscan. I and my brothers were born in Los Angeles. But because we looked like the people that bombed Pearl Harbor, they threw us into jail.”

Brattleboro Un-burglary

This morning when I started my car, I found three one-dollar bills folded up and sitting in my cup holder. No note, no explanation, and nothing missing from the car that I could notice.

A pleasant surprise!

But more surprising, this is not the first time it has happened. Once before, I found $3.

Wassup?

Elliot St. Fire

There is a huge fire in one of the Elliot St buildings, near Union Hill. I’m hearing skuttlebutt but so far nothing confirmed except that the fire is more than one floor. By the vid Joe Bushey posted on FB, it looks like most of the back of the building is involved. I hope everyone is safe, pets included.

Suspicious Phone Call About Medical Compensation

I just received a call from this #: 954 -399-6639 – and the man -who could just barely speak English -stated that he was calling about “medical compensation” due to me. When I asked where he was calling from he said his name was “Eddie’ and he was calling from ‘the medical office”. I hung up and called the number back and got a message saying it was disconnected. More scams in the making.

Aggressive “Medical Alert” Telemarketer Warning

This evening, I picked up the one non-caller-ID phone in the house to hear a chipper youthful male voice intrducing himself and saying he was calling to arrrange an installation appointment for my new medical alert system.  I quickly said no thanks, not interested, and he just as quickly responded that I already had on on order, they just need to install it.  When I said I never ordered such a thing, he said it was already paid for, and that “someone who loves me or cares about my welfare” must have placed the order for my benefit.  Yeah, right.
