Brattleboro Parking Ban Ticket?

When I moved in to the town of Brattleboro in April, I went to the parking enforcement office to find out about the parking rules on my street. Carol Coulombe in that office said don’t worry about unless there is snow and not mentioning the winter parking ban. Well apparently Officer Hamilton went on a ticketing spree last night and I woke to a parking ticket and not a flake of snow.

Entergy Push Poll

Yesterday, I was called by “VT Opinion Survey” with what was quite obviously a push poll from Entergy, owners of Vermont Yankee. I am a sucker for polls and had a fun time scoring Entergy on topics such as “trust worthy” and “transparency.” After about 20 minutes, the caller repeated the same initial questions and asked if, as a result of the call, I had changed my mind on any of the topics.

Anyone else out there get a call?

Vintage Game – Crossbows and Catapults

I know this is a very long shot but thought I’d give it a try. My son’s had a game in the 80s called “Crossbows and Catapults” which they loved. We were trying to find one of these for a reasonable price. EBay and Amazon have several ranging from $150 to $275 ….ridiculous.

So, I’m wondering if somewhere in the diverse land of ibrattleboro someone might have one of these languishing in their attic? As I said, I realize the chances are slim but thought it was worth a try. I’m happy to pay a reasonable price for it. Thanks!

Retreat Tower Questions

I took my young sons up to the Retreat Tower this past Tuesday — it was their first visit.  I’ve never been inside, but have heard that it is opened to the public now & then.  Does anyone know if there are fixed dates that it’s open, or where one can find out when it will be open?  The boys are dying to have a look inside and climb to the top for a view of the area.

Question Re: Yard Sales This Weekend

I am having a yard sale this weekend (Saturday)on Western Avenue, household stuff. Is anyone in the Western Avenue/Tree Streets neighborhood having one also? I am wondering if we could combine them into a multi-family sale to improve traffic? Thanks.

Is Quick Cash Possible in the Digital Age?

With everything digital, what do the kids sell when they need some quick cash nowadays?

In the olden days of, say, the 1990s, we had physical CD’s, albums, books and such that cold be sold relatively easily for cash. The quick cash would often help us young folk survive a few more days until payday.

Increasingly, everything is on hard drives. What do young people do now when they need a few dollars to smooth their cash flow issues?

Use of GPS Attached to Dashboard or Windshield

I just bought a GPS unit. Since I recently learned that ornaments hanging from the windshield mirror are illegal, as they obstruct the driver’s vision, I am wondering if there are any restrictions to the use of a GPS monitor and how it is mounted. I need to be able to read it, but I don’t need a ticket.

Thanks.

Can Anyone Help with a Projector?

Hi Neighbors,

Liz Johndrow of the Nicaragua Pueblo Project is giving a presentation at the Brattleboro Library on Tuesday and she is in need of a projector to show slides and a video from her computer. Do you have one, or do you know of a person or organization that might have one we can borrow for the evening?

Can Anyone Identify This Beautiful Tree?

Can anyone identify the species of this beautiful multi-trunked tree in the Common?

It is approximately aligned with #38 Park Place and one of the crosswalks and, if you are looking into the Common from the sidewalk, it is straight back from the Memorial Tree Plaque.

End-Of-The-World Blues

what do you do when you’ve got the end-of-the-world blues? You know: I ice is melting, our pollinators are dying, the sea is rising, the West Coast is burning, the East Coast is losing it’s beach front houses, fracking is depleting water supplies in America’s driest areas, landslides, sink holes, tornadoes, typhoons, earthquakes, fake clouds, drones, economy crashing, oil slicks, tsunamis, big floods, big droughts, nuclear pollution, air pollution, noise pollution, all this makes me sick!…need I say more? what-what-what do you do when this gets you down?

Tenants Rights Organization in Brattleboro?

Hi fellow ibrattleboro-ians,

Does anyone know if there ia any kind of tenant rights organization or advocacy program available to low income residents in Brattleboro? I’m having an issue in my current apartment regarding a tenant smoking in a porch area that is the only access to my apartment. I was told that the building I live in was a smoke free building including common areas and despite the fact that the porch is technically outside this tenant’s cigarette smoke comes in my windows and every time I enter and exit my home I have to walk through a cloud of smoke. I have serious medical issues that are being made worse by this constant exposure to second hand smoke.

I’m looking for some legal advice as to how address this issue. Thanks.

Irradiated Water Mailings?

I’ve heard about a mass mailing pertaining to irradiated water that could potentially affect residents of Brattleboro. I live outside of town, so I haven’t actually seen the mailing, but wondered who it was sent by. Also, what’s the deal with signing up for some type of pill just in case? I’m not trying to stir people up, I just wonder if anyone has more information about this mailing.
