Lost dog? – Mt Wantastiquet, Tues., 6/14/16

My neighbor and I live across the river on Wantastiquet Dr in Brattleboro, and we both heard a dog howling in distress on Mt. Wantastiquet. We weren’t sure if he/she was hurt or lost, but realized it was most likely lost when we heard the howling move further away towards the NH side.

We first heard the howling on the VT side of the mtn. at about 8:30pm.

Lost Beagle in Brattleboro

I was just at Avenue Grocery on Western Ave and learned that there is a missing beagle somewhere in Brattleboro.

The dog was in Harmony Lot with its owner, got spooked and ran away. I was told that it is a shelter dog, named Gypsy, and could be anywhere from downtown to I-91.

If you see a confused, scared beagle out there, get in touch with Avenue Grovery and they can put you in touch with the owner.

Brattleboro Dog Licenses Due

Brattleboro dog and wolf-hybrid licenses are due on or before April 1. Vermont dogs and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older must be licensed on or before April 1. For dogs not previously licensed in Brattleboro, a first-time license must be obtained in person from the Town Clerk’s office. Licenses being renewed may be processed in the Town Clerk’s office, through the mail or online at www.brattleboro.org.

Vaccination against rabies is required by Vermont Statutes before licensing. A current vaccination means:

All dogs and wolf-hybrids over three months of age shall be vaccinated against rabies. The initial vaccination shall be valid for 12 months. Within 9 to 12 months of the initial vaccination, the animal must receive a booster vaccination.

Great Leap Forward for Women’s Rights

A Saudi panel of scientists recently concluded that women aren’t just household items as it was previously
thought, but are mammals and therefore should have same rights as camels and goats.

Previously, women had the same rights as a chair or a table and were seen more as individual property.

They now have an equivalent status to certain animal species, and thus must receive, at the very least, feeding, watering and be conferred a minimum of attention.

“Ain’t that precious?”

Cat Box Liner And Litter Package Tested And Approved For Brattleboro’s Curbside Composting Program

Liner converts into a clean, sealed disposal bag

Brattleboro, VT July 10, 2015, Litter-2-U is a product that gives cat owners a convenient way to dispose of cat litter in their curbside composting cart. This fast, easy and clean way to change cat litter compliments Brattleboro’s curbside composting program and diverts litter from costly, harmful landfills to usable compost.

Litter-2-U (L2U) is a compostable plant-based liner pre filled with a 100% wood-pellet litter, which is highly absorbent and effective at odor control. The strong 2-ply liner has a jute drawstring that can later be cinched for disposal. With L2U, Brattleboro cat owners can avoid putting their litter in a costly non-compostable PAYT bag destined for the landfill. L2U is currently available online at and is delivered to your door.

In Search of a Home for Miss Daisy

We are in search of a loving home for a wonderful older female dog, who we took in a couple of months ago, but has let us know that she would prefer to not live out her golden years with two rambunctious babes in diapers. She is great with people, cats, dogs, kids, walks on or off leash, great in the car, and stays home alone during the day too.

She is sweet, and while she did express her need for some space from the tots, I know for a fact she is good with kids because she came from home where she was the beloved companion of a girl from toddler to teen. Anyone who has any ideas, please let me know! ♥

This post was created with love.

Missing Cat – Oak Street Area

My beloved Maine Coon cat, Sava, and has been missing from my Oak Street apartment since Wednesday evening. Thought he was just hiding- he was stressed out from a vet visit. We have torn the house, attic and neighboring yards apart with no sight of him.

He is big- 19 lbs. Grey, black and tan. He has a “lion cut”. Not an outdoor cat so he will be terrified and possibly aggressive.

If you see him – alive or not- please call me at 802- 258 8581. We are heartbroken. Thank you.

Howling Dog

Large dog Enzo is all alone down in his apartment and has been howling and barking since 9 AM. His owner, our tenant, hung up on me when I called her at work. The neighbor who lives upstairs from Enzo is on a work related phone conference call until 1pm and the noise makes it very difficult for him to do his work. The dog warden doesn’t work today.

Suggestions?

Seeking A Source Of Quality Nip

Every year at Christmas I make catnip mice for all the cats of my acquaintance, or in some cases, for the cats of my acquaintances.  In any event, the nip has always worked in the past, so this year I was a little surprised when the two test mice I made for my own cats elicited no reaction whatsoever.  We had to make them take the mice.  They poked them a little and one cat endeavored to at least try to act interested, but overall, the mice were a resounding failure.  I blame the nip.

The catnip I used advertised joyous rapture for kitties on its label, but it was commercially grown nip sold in plastic bags, so I knew it wasn’t going to be great.  But judging from my cats’ less than tepid reaction, it may as well have been parsley.

Someone You Know is Walking for Animals – Please Donate In Their Honor!

The Windham County Human Society’s 14th annual Walk for Animals is Saturday, September 27. The Walkers (and the animals) would love to have your support!

Dozens of Walkers have signed up and are collecting donations to support their Walk. They’ve raised more than one-third of our goal, but there’s a ways to go!

And of course, it would be great to exceed the goal so we can do even more for animals in need.

What it supports: The money raised at the Walk goes to help the Humane Society meet these important needs:

Windham County Humane Society Plans Walk for Animals

The Windham County Humane Society’s 14th annual Walk for Animals will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27, starting and ending at Crowell Park on Western Avenue in Brattleboro.

All of the money raised by the fundraising walk goes directly to support the humane society’s efforts to help lost, homeless and abused animals survive, thrive and find new homes. The goal is to raise $10,000 at this year’s Walk.

Participants in the walk are invited to solicit donations from friends, family members and co-workers in support of their walk. This year the society has set up an online fundraising page at Crowdrise.com, but those who prefer to use a paper form to gather donations can still download one at the society’s website.
