This post is on behalf of “Loaves & Fishes” community kitchen which serves a hot meal to anyone in need twice a week at Centre Congregational Church, Main St., Brattleboro.
We were gifted with a “Bready Machine” which we would like to see go to someone who could use it. It is suited for individual use, but it is less useful in our larger kitchen. Some pre-packaged bread mixes may also be available.

Join us as we kick off the 10th season of the Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market – one of the longest running diverse indoor farmers markets in Vermont. Starting Saturday, November 7, come to the market and dazzle your senses at the beautiful River Garden in the heart of downtown Brattleboro. Visitors will find more fresh local produce than ever before!
Each week we transform the space into a warm welcoming indoor marketplace. You’ll find up to 30 vendors including favorites from past seasons. Our regular farm vendors returning this season are Big Picture Farm, Circle Mountain Farm, Deep Meadows Farm, Deer Ridge Farm, Dwight Miller Orchards, Hickin’s Mountain Mowing, New Leaf CSA, Old Schoolhouse Plantery, Walnut Ridge Farm, and Wild Shepherd Farm. Favorites from the past bringing back their crafts and great prepared food items include Susan Dunning’s Potteryworks, Orchard Hill Breadworks, Wild Flour Bakery, One World Soap, Vermont Quince, Sawyer’s Artisanal Cheese, Cai’s Dim Sum, Thai Hut, and more. New products to look for at the market this season include a wonderful array of jars of delicious local fruit juice, chocolates, woodcrafts, handmade bags and tunics, blown glass ornaments and beads.

Thanks to everyone who has come out to eat at Dosa Kitchen this season!
Our last day parked at Grafton Cheese Village will be this Saturday, 10/24.
Then we’ll be taking Dosa Kitchen indoors to the Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market, Saturdays from 10-2. Stop by Friday or Saturday before we pack up the truck, where we’ll be making our sunshine squash masala and green tomato chutney. And pick up a Dosa Dollar to use at the winter farmers’ market. We’ll be open 10-2 both Friday and Saturday.

Did anyone else pick up the GOOD EATS little mag that the Reformer’s parent group put out?
Nice little article on local foodscene stuff with a decent writeup about bakeries by Cicely Eastman. Some tasty sounding recipes on other pages I intend to try are on other pages.
However, a small quibble – they used a European bakery photo to illustrate the local bakeries on page 4. Notice the signs in front of the baked goods have prices listed in Euros.
I am looking for a carrot cake recipe that makes the old style cake — dark (a warm brown color), dense, moist cake, (high carrot content, I think) and definitely NO PINEAPPLE OR COCONUT. Raisins and walnuts definitely OKAY. While the newer recipes are more like regular cake, they are not the carrot cakes from the 70’s that I remember and love (and are no match, either, as far as I’m concerned). .Does anyone know a local bakery who does or would make one with these requirements? This is for a 60th birthday, and the birthday girl really wants to relive the carrot cake experience.
Thanks for any leads or recipes.
