Food Delivery For Those In Need

The Brattleboro VFW Post #1034, Brattleboro Elks #1499, Masonic Lodge #102, and the American Legion Post 5 is banding together with the guidance of the Brattleboro Fire Department to buy groceries and other essential items for those who cannot and should not venture out. Volunteers will be purchasing items, bagging or boxing them, and delivering them to homes where needed in the Brattleboro area.
We are asking for donations to support this cause. 100% of the proceeds will be used to purchase items. Please make checks payable to VFW Post 1034, and include a return address so a receipt can be mailed. Mail to:

An Update from the Brattleboro Food Co-op

Greetings from the re-invented Brattleboro Food Co-op! We have now more or less stabilized into our new schedule for curbside orders paired with open store hours. Just to remind you, we take orders at 802-246-2800 from 8:00 a.m. to noon for same-day pickup, and noon to 2 for next day pickup. We also are open for those not isolating from 2 pm to 7 pm, except for Sunday April 12, when we are closed for Easter.

A few explanations about how we are doing what we are doing, and what you can expect from us.

Pandemic Diet – Eating Beans and Rice

It’s important to keep up morale during the emergency.  One way to do that is food.  But what to do when you hit those days when your delivery order isn’t ready yet, your curbside pickup order isn’t till tomorrow, or you just don’t feel like going to the grocery store yourself?  This kind of circumstance can lead to a lot of bean and rice dinners, and who’s to say that’s a bad thing?  It brings us back to basics, enduring a little hardship in what is, after all, a life and death situation.  On the other hand, simple, noble cooking can be seriously boring if you really like food.  

I think the key for me is to have on hand a few basic meals that we actually like to eat.  That way, we can always make something reasonably appetizing.  It’s important to keep meals appetizing because boredom and depression can diminish appetite and you want to keep eating, within reasonable bounds.  Food makes us feel good, and it’s good to feel good, especially during an epidemic, because feeling good boosts our immunity.

Essential Information: Brattleboro Food Co-op and Covid-19

The Brattleboro Food Co-op is well considered an essential local business and is open for business with limited hours and curbside pickup for groceries, sundries, fresh and frozen foods, wellness supplies, and more during this Covid-19 epidemic.

As a central local business focused on food and health, the Co-op feels it is important everyone in the Bratt community knows the Co-op is making every effort to keep its staff and customers safe and comfortable during this crisis. The store hours have changed temporarily to 2pm-7pm daily so customers can come into the Co-op to do their own shopping. The Co-op has also created a Curbside Pickup service for those who are compromised and don’t want to go into the store. Customers can call the Curbside Hotline at 802-246-2800 to place an order for pick up curbside either that same day or the next day.

Dosa Kitchen Temporarily Closing After Service Sunday

Beloved customers, your health and safety is what matters most to us. For this reason, Sunday will be our last day of regular hours for a while. Helping to reduce the possible spread of COVID-19 by closing is our act of community solidarity to help flatten the curve. We will take appropriate steps for resuming our regular schedule with the guidance of health officials.

On Sunday we will be offering our regular menu plus grab-and-go items such as sambar soup, turmeric bone broth, dosa batter and curry and rice boxes. Support us and your health by stocking up, or consider purchasing a gift certificate that you can use later (consider this for as many downtown businesses as you can!).

Brattleboro Winter Farmers’ Market Update

Because of the concern with COVID19 spreading via public gatherings, a number of our vendors will not be coming to the market this week. We were going to officially cancel the market, but at least one intrepid farmer, Elizabeth Wood from New Leaf CSA insisted on coming down to sell veggies to you, and she will be joined by Mary Ellen from High Goose Farm with all those healthful black currant concoctions, and likely Orchard Hill Breadworks as well. I’m sure others will be there too. Check our Facebook page -@brattleborowinterfarmersmarket – for updates.

So when you come to the market on Saturday, you will find a smaller version of us, and you will not find a terminal to run credit, debit or EBT card sales. Plan accordingly and be prepared with cash or check, or the tokens and coupons you already have on hand.

Sugar on Snow Supper in Guilford March 7

Broad Brook Grange’s annual Sugar on Snow Supper will be held Saturday, March 7, at the Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford. The meal features ham, and the following homemade items: baked beans, deviled eggs, scalloped potatoes, cole slaw, rolls, donuts, Guilford pickles, and Guilford maple sugar on Guilford snow.

There will be three seatings: at 5:00, 6:00 and 7:00 pm. At each seating, a half-gallon of Guilford maple syrup will be raffled.
