Escuelita Spanish School expands its Brattleboro offerings!

Many of us had frustrating experiences “learning” a foreign language in school. We were taught the grammar rules before we could speak and understand the language, and after several years of study we could conjugate verbs but couldn’t hold a conversation. Escuelita’s classes use current brain and language acquisition research to create classes that allow our students to truly acquire the language faster than they imagined possible. Our classes are not only effective– they are extremely fun. Every class is different because they are completely personalized to the students in the group. Together, the class co-creates stories and wacky situations (ever notice how it is the strange/funny details that stick in your brain?)– entirely in 100% comprehensible Spanish!

Weekend Concert: The Clash Live in Tokyo 1982

The Clash: Live in Tokyo 1982

” The Clash were an English punk rock band that formed in 1976 as part of the original wave of British punk. Along with punk, their music incorporated elements of reggae, ska, dub, funk rap, and rockabilly. For most of their recording career, the Clash consisted of Joe Strummer ( lead guitar ,vocals), Mick Jones (lead guitar, vocals) Paul Simonon( bass guitar, vocals) and Nicky “Topper Headon ( drums , percussion). Headon left the group in 1982, and internal friction led to Jone’s departure the following year in 1986. ” from Wikipedia

Vermont Jazz Center Presents Eugene Uman’s Convergence Project on Saturday, June 8th at 8 pm

The music composed and performed by Eugene Uman, pianist and leader of the Convergence Project, achieves a difficult feat: it balances on an artistic tightrope between fresh, innovative and exploratory on one side, and accessible, understandable, exceedingly enjoyable and fun to listen to on the other. What keeps the project unified is the integrity of the compositions, the shared vision of the group’s members and the careful balance of jazz harmonies with Colombian rhythms.

Weekend Concert Series – Dire Straits

Let’s pop over to Australia for the final night of Dire Strait’s Brothers In Arms tour from April 1986.

As with many groups, the best known Dire Straits songs are not necessarily their best tracks. This show features a mixture of hits (at the time) and some lesser-known songs.

Mark Knopfler and Dire Straits always seemed to fly just a bit under the radar, and like Kid Creole, probably didn’t get the full recognition they deserved. It was the 80’s and they didn’t have many dance moves to show off on MTV, though they did have some success with videos.

Your Scariest Horror Movie Rec?

Okay, folks. I love horror movies and am hoping to see some recommendations that I don’t know of already. Personally, the gore and torture films aren’t what I consider scary horror. I’m talking about things that fill you with dread, are tense and leave indelible impressions. For instance… after seeing the Blair Witch Project I couldn’t get the sight of the guy standing in the basement corner out of my mind. Creepy is much more insidious than slash.

So please, if you’ve a mind to, tell what movies left that mark on you.
