Guilford, Vt. – As it has done for over a half-century, Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG) opens its annual music season with a concert in a rural barn on Saturday night of Labor Day Weekend. The famed Organ Barn is in an idyllic setting near the state line where Guilford meets Leyden, Massachusetts. The intimate Barn seats about a hundred concertgoers, and on Sunday afternoon, two hundred or more people flock to the lawn outside the Barn for picnics and an orchestra concert.

Twilight Music concludes its 15th annual Twilight On The Tavern Lawn series of folk-rock, world beat, rock, pop, Celtic, blues and bluegrass summer concerts on Sunday, August 20 with funk and world beat band Simba. The seventh and final concert of the 2017 series begin at 6:00 pm in downtown Putney on the Putney Tavern lawn (bring a lawn chair or blanket) or at Next Stage at 15 Kimball Hill in case of rain. Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present The Seamus Egan Project, featuring the founding member of the seminal Irish-American band Solas, at Next Stage on Friday, July 28 at 7:30 pm. Beginning with tunes from his groundbreaking 1996 album “When Juniper Sleeps,” which was the impetus for the formation of Solas, through music from his 20-year career with that iconic band, and adding some brand new tunes, Seamus, with Moira Smiley (vocals, piano, banjo), Kyle Senna (guitar) and other musical friends, will continue to explore the further reaches of the Irish tradition and beyond.

Guilford, Vt. – Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG) presents its 51st season finale on Saturday, June 17, an annual three-part event dubbed “A Cappella à la Carte.” Set at Guilford Community Church, just off Rt. 5 near Exit 1 off I-91, the evening includes a short meeting, a potluck dinner, and a 7:30 concert of vocal music. Each optional segment is open to the general public; admission to the concert is by donation.

The Vermont Jazz Center presents Eugene Uman’s Convergence Project on June 10th at 8:00 PM. The Convergence Project is Uman’s vehicle to present his original compositions and music that have influenced him – it includes Michael Zsoldos, saxophones; Jeff Galindo, trombone; Uman, piano; David Picchi, bass (electric and acoustic) and Jon Fisher on drums. Special musical guests will include Wanda Houston on vocals and Josh Bruneau on trumpet.

Drums from Martinique and Cuba mingle with rhythms of Turkey and Bulgaria in the jazz world of percussionist/composer Julian Gerstin. Living in Martinique for two years, Julian studied the unusual tanbou drum, played with both hands and one foot. To bring this instrument to life here, he composed music for a jazz setting, where musicians can improvise and create on the basis of tradition.

Guilford, Vt. – Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG), now in its 51st Concert Season, is preparing for its 9th annual Spring Recital in the Organ Barn at Tree Frog Farm, the site of its founding event in 1966. Each season begins with an organ concert in this intimate barn on Labor Day Weekend. Over the past decade, a sort of “bookended” concert towards the end of FOMAG’s season has given the organization a second opportunity to celebrate its roots. This spring’s concert is at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 28, and is followed by an optional holiday cookout.

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present acoustic swing and alt gypsy jazz quartet Caravan of Thieves, plus indie-folk-rock duo The Dupont Brothers, at Next Stage on Saturday, May 20 at 7:30 pm.

Planning is underway for this year’s BrattRock–The Brattleboro Youth Rock Festival. Now in its second year, the festival’s mission is to provide a venue for musical youth from Brattleboro and the surrounding region to connect, learn, perform, inspire, and be inspired. Events and activities emphasize both educational and performance opportunities. Participation is free and open to youth under age 20 who are musicians, or who have an interest in music or the music industry.
