Shoot the Moon Theater Company continues its 2017 season at the Hooker-Dunham Theater with, “Trump’s Fifth Avenue: A Political Fantasia.” Show times are 7:30PM on Friday and Saturday, July 14-15 and July 21-22. 

The call for entries for the Vermont Center for Photography’s 2nd Juried Photographic Book Exhibition “By the Books” is open until July 15, 2017. Noted photographer, Henry Horenstein will jury this exhibition Opening on August 4, 2017, it will showcase a wide variety of outstanding photographic books from artists around the world. This exhibition is a unique opportunity to “break out of the frame” and share your photographic work in an alternative format. All submitted books will be reviewed by our juror who will be solely responsible for selecting the books to be on display.

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to present Garden of Delights, an exhibition of wire-mesh sculptures by Eric Boyer. An Opening Reception will take place Thursday, June 22 at 5 pm, with an Artist Talk Saturday, June 24 from 5-7 pm.  

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to present an Artist Talk with Torin Porter on Saturday, June 10th from 5-7pm. Porter’s show “Before Words” has been featured in MGFA for the month of May and will continue through June 18. This talk is free and open to the public, part of a series of events at MGFA intended to better connect communities and their artists.

From May 25 to August 22 May 26, Next Stage Arts Gallery is showing works by Artist Julia Jensen in a show titled “Lay of the Land.“

We are inviting artists throughout the region to participate in our new logo contest. We are looking for artists to design a new logo for use by the Arts Council of Windham County & for our Gallery Walk! Our logo contest is being supported by a number of sponsors including the Brattleboro Chamber of Commerce, Latchis Theatre, Mondo Mediaworks, River Gallery School, T.J. Buckley’s, and Zephyr Designs.

Guilford Center Stage announces open auditions for its October premiere of To Their Appointed End: the One-Act Plays of Jean Stewart McLean.  There will be two sessions of auditions: Saturday, May 20, from 10 am to Noon, and Wednesday, May 24, from 6 to 8 pm, at Broad Brook Grange in Guilford.  William Stearns directs the production.

West Brattleboro, Vt. — The gallery at All Souls Church UU is showing a new series by local artist Kay Curtis through the end of June. The eight drypoint monoprints, with multiple layers of colored pencil and crayon, each have a specific theme in the series entitled “Queen Anne’s Lace: The Circle Comes Around.” A set of eight smaller experimental prints, created before the “Queen Anne’s Lace” series was launched, as well as a large jazz-themed painting, are also on display. The public is invited to an artist’s reception on Saturday, May 6, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., hosted by the All Souls Arts Committee.
 
Kay’s distinctive whimsical style is used in these works to tell the story of life, a rather grand undertaking whose inspiration came to her spontaneously. The artist believes that key events in her life are serendipitously aligned with the subject matter.

We at Guilford Center Stage are particularly proud to be presenting a play by a Guilford playwright, Michael Nethercott, this coming weekend at Broad Brook Grange.  When we chose the work, we had little idea how powerful the setting — the French Resistance in World War II — would be in 2017!  Those of us fortunate to be attending rehearsals are seeing a skillful playwright/director at work, with a company of 11 wonderful actors.

When I first moved to Southern Vermont in 1976 (Weathersfield) I quickly became involved in contra dancing and the rich and inviting culture of live music that fueled dance floors in church halls, granges, town halls and rural dance barns.  It doesn’t take much for me to remember those nights at Palmer’s Dance Barn in Unity, the Acworth and Dublin town halls, Chelsea House, Green Street School and many others. 

The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library are holding a raffle for a 14×17 framed photo print by James Sneddon from the New York Times Photo Collection. Generously donated by Mary Ide, it is valued at $250. Tickets are $1 each, and will be on sale at the circulation desk at Brooks Library, where the print may be also be seen in person. The drawing will be held July 5th at 7pm!

On Friday and Saturday, April 28th and 29th Sandglass Theater will present the first full work-in-progress showing of Babylon at Next Stage Arts Project at 7:30pm, with an additional fundraising event for the Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program on Friday after the show. Babylon is a piece about refugees: their journeys, traumas, and challenges to resettlement. Performed by puppets and actors with moving panoramas, known as crankies and with choral singing. Sandglass has been developing this piece for nearly two years, and will begin touring in Autumn of 2017.

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to present “Before Words”, an exhibition of steel sculptures by Torin Porter running from May 4th to June 18th. An opening reception will take place on May 4th at 5pm. An Artist Talk is set for June 10 from 5-7pm.

On Saturday, April 15  from 7:30-9:00. The Williamsville Hall presents the 1928 French silent film “The Passion of Joan d’Arc” featuring the premiere performance of an original soundtrack performed live on piano by Dan DeWalt.  Admission is by donation and will raise funds for the Williamsville Hall. The Hall is located off of Route 30 in Williamsville (across from the Eatery).

Drawing from the Visible World, an exhibition of works on paper, paintings and sculptures by JASON ALDEN, PAUL BOWEN and MYLES DANAHER will be on view from Friday, April 7, 2017-Thursday, April 27, 2017 at 118 Elliot Gallery. The opening reception is on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 6:00 PM. The gallery is located at 118 Elliot Street in Brattleboro, VT. Gallery hours: Thurs.-Sat, 2-6 PM.

Guilford Center Stage opens its third season at Broad Brook Grange, not with a play, but with a square dance, on Saturday, April 8, at 7 pm.  The event is a benefit for the Grange’s resident theater company, and features Bob Livingston, caller, with the Falltown String Band.    Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12 and under,  and maximum for a family is $25.  

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is excited to offer a very special Artist Talk with David Rohn this Saturday, March 25 from 5-7pm. Rohn is the feature of the gallery-wide exhibit David Rohn Watercolors 1974-2016, running from March 16-April 30.
