Construction Update

Brattleboro-Hinsdale

BF A004(152)

DATE: Thursday, November 7, 2024

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Flaggers will be present at the entrance to 28 Vernon Street next week while the driveway is paved. Some delays may be encountered during the day while this operation takes place.

One-way alternating traffic controlled by flaggers will continue along Vermont Route 142 near the construction site entrance to the new bridge where increased work traffic is anticipated the next few weeks. Motorists should be vigilant of uniformed traffic officers and vehicles with flashing lights protecting sign installers along all approach routes to the bridge.

Approach to the new intersection of VT 142 and VT/NH 119.

Guardrail installation and running lines through conduit.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Paving of the driveway entrance to 28 Vernon Street and some potholes in the parking lot is scheduled to take place one day next week as weather allows. Delays entering and exiting the lot may be encountered during this operation as the pavement must cool to a certain temperature for traffic to drive on it.

Installation of traffic signals and lighting at the new intersection of VT 142 and VT/NH 119 has been mostly completed with the exception of some solar power cells for the lights. This work will continue into next week. Coordination and timing of the signal with Brattleboro Department of Public Works and the Vermont Agency of Transportation signal operations will continue.

Sign crews will continue placing signs for the new bridge next week. The signs will be covered until the bridge is ready to open. This crew will be accessing shoulders along approach routes to the project in a mobile work zone with a uniformed traffic officer.

Crews have begun working on fence and guardrail along VT 142 to the bridge and this work will continue into next week.

Clean up on all parts of the project is progressing well. This work includes removing overhang forms and stripping, cleaning, patching (if needed), and waterproofing exposed concrete. Removal of the temporary trestle, with its intermittent noise from the diesel hammer, is also showing solid progress.

LOCATION:

The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.

Unanticipated delays at a couple of the piers have adjusted the project completion date from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.

PROJECTED COMPLETION: June 30, 2025
