Motorists are advised to watch for the new traffic pattern to be implemented next week.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
The new bridge for New Hampshire/Vermont Route 119 is scheduled to open next week by the end of the day on Thursday, December 5th. Message boards throughout the area will indicate when traffic on the new bridge is active. All traffic wishing to access NH/VT 119 will need to turn onto Vermont Route 142 and access the new bridge at the new signalized intersection. Pedestrians should continue to use existing accommodations on the old bridges.
Prior to the opening, one-way alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will continue on VT 142 adjacent to the new bridge entrance. In addition, sign work on all approach routes to the bridge will continue and motorists should be vigilant of uniformed traffic officers and vehicles with flashing lights accessing the shoulders.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Crews are working hard to complete final preparations to open the bridge to traffic next week. Weather depending, the bridge opening is scheduled by end of day December 5th. This operation must be done in close concert with permanent pavement marking crews in New Hampshire who will need to eradicate old lines and re-stripe the curve to the new bridge. Pavement marking crews will be available the day before and the day after the scheduled opening in case inclement weather adjusts the timing.
Signal and sign crews will both be working next week. Signal crews are continuing to work on the timing with the rest of the signals around Brattleboro. Sign crews will finish placing signs and a crew will need to uncover them once traffic has been switched.
Clean up on all parts of the project continues.

LOCATION:
The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.
The project completion date is June 30, 2025. The bridge is scheduled to open to motor vehicles by end of day December 5th, 2024 and to pedestrian traffic in Spring 2025.
