TRAFFIC IMPACTS:
Motorists should remain alert for construction traffic, including concrete trucks, entering and exiting the work zone from Vermont Route 142 and Depot Street.
Changing traffic patterns may be encountered on New Hampshire 119 shortly after leaving Vermont and traveling over the twin bridges as early as next week. Once roadway work is complete in this location, traffic will be partially shifted to the new alignment of the roadway.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
Multiple concrete placements are scheduled for the next 3 weeks for the bridge approach from VT 142 as well as the sidewalks and rail copings. A placement for sidewalk and curb is scheduled for Monday, and the Vermont approach slab is to be placed Wednesday. Both will require multiple truckloads of concrete.
Work on cleaning and removing the remaining two tanks from the Pier 1 dewatering treatment system will resume next week. Finish work of berm repair, grading, and paving in the Barrows and Fisher yard around Pier 1 also remains.
The weather has delayed completion of the new alignment of NH 119. Installation of asphalt curb and the application of pavement markings are now scheduled for next week. Once completed, a new traffic pattern will be established in this location and motorists should be vigilant in the area.
LOCATION:
The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.
Unanticipated delays at a couple of the piers have adjusted the project completion date from Fall 2024 to Summer 2025.
