Construction Update Brattleboro-Hinsdale Bridge – August 9, 2024

Construction Update

Brattleboro-Hinsdale

BF A004(152)

DATE: Thursday August 8, 2024

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Motorists should remain alert for construction traffic, including concrete trucks, entering and exiting the work zone from Vermont Route 142 and Depot Street.

New traffic patterns are in place on New Hampshire 119 shortly after leaving Vermont and traveling over the twin bridges. Traffic has been partially shifted to the new alignment of the roadway.

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Concrete for the last two bridge deck sections and the Vermont approach slab has been placed. Work on removing the last treatment tank from the Pier 1 site should be completed this week. The new traffic pattern is in place on the new alignment on NH 119 as of this week as well.

For the next couple of weeks, placement of concrete for the sidewalks and curbs will continue to advance from east to west. Work on the approach to the bridge from VT 142 will ramp up – including placing the moment slabs/sidewalk, installing the expansion joint at that end of the bridge, raising the approach to grade, installing the traffic signals, and final paving.

Additional work is anticipated in the Barrows and Fisher yard once treatment tanks are removed and the site can be restored to its final condition.

LOCATION:

The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.

PROJECTED COMPLETION: June 30, 2025
