TRAFFIC IMPACT: Vermont Route 142 reopened at 4 pm Thursday, September 7th, 2023. Upon reopening, crews will be working along the detour routes covering and removing signs and reconfiguring temporary traffic control measures to their permanent configurations. In the coming weeks, local traffic should expect either minor delays or alternating one-way traffic controlled by flaggers as work along the roadway essential to the completion of the bridge project is completed.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:
The VT 142 paving operation is complete, with 5″ of pavement being placed. Final pavement will be held until the entire project is closer to completion next year. Placement of guard rail, bridge rail and fencing along the northern part of the project was completed this week. Temporary barrier has been placed along the southern portion of the project. Temporary pavement markings have been placed. Fine grading the shoulders, ditch lines and other critical areas, and backing up the pavement edges with crushed stone to eliminate drop-off are also being completed this week.
VT 142 is reopened as of Thursday, September 7th. Detour signs will be taken down and/or covered as a part of the road opening process.
With VT 142 open, crews will place concrete for moment slabs next week. Work has also resumed on the South MSE wall where they are installing the cap blocks along the top of the wall. Other crews will work outside of the roadway on cabinet and meter pedestal work for signals at the intersection where the new bridge will tie in, and on ITS conduit work between vaults.
LOCATION:
The Hinsdale, NH to Brattleboro, VT bridge project will replace the existing twin truss bridges on New Hampshire Route 119 over the Connecticut River with a single, new structure approximately 1800′ long. On the Vermont side, the new structure will begin on Vermont Route 142 – about 1000′ south of the current intersection of VT 142 and NH 119. The new configuration will connect to NH 119 in New Hampshire east of the George’s Field Road/NH 119 intersection.
