VFW Lunch Specials Feb. 27th – Mar. 3rd

The Brattleboro VFW at 40 Black Mountain Road is open to the public for lunch. Lunch is served from 11:30 – 1:30. Specials are only $6 a plate. Burgers, fries, onion rings, chicken wings, soups and sandwiches are also available.

I-91 Brattleboro Bridge Replacement Project Update: Week of February 27th

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge. The new bridge will be 104’ wide and is designed to carry all four lanes of traffic –two northbound and two southbound.

To reduce congestion on I-91, both Exit 3 on ramps will be closed on Sunday, February 26th from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM (I-91 will remain open). Traffic conditions on both I-91 and through the town will be monitored closely throughout the day. Should traffic congestion become an issue, the ramps may be re-opened until traffic conditions improve. This will be managed actively throughout the day until peak traffic volumes have passed.

Ukulele Lunchtime Jams to Begin in Brattleboro – Free!

All area ukulele players are invited to six free Lunchtime Ukulele Jams to be held the first and third Mondays in March, April and May. Running from 11:00 a.m. – noon., the jams will take place at Latchis 4 Gallery, on Main Street, in Brattleboro, VT.

Mark your calendar! The Lunchtime Ukulele Jam dates are March 6 & 20; April 3 & 17; and May 1 & 15. Come to just one jam, or make it a bi-weekly tradition!

The Lunchtime Ukulele Jams are an outgrowth of the classes, salons and flash mobs led by instructor and singer-songwriter Lisa McCormick, in response to a groundswell of enthusiasm by local players interested in continuing to play together.

Parenting for Social Justice at Brooks Memorial Library

Parenting for Social Justice Chats will be happening at Brooks Memorial Library for three Wednesdays from 6:00pm-8:00pm: March 8th, April 12th, and May 10th. This initial series will focus on race and racial justice.

Parenting is beautiful and it is challenging. One of the things we struggle with as parents is having hard conversations with our kids. Many of us are seeking support and ideas for how to have the hard conversations with our kids about racism and police brutality, about transgender issues, about hatred for Muslims and many other social justice issues. And we are looking to turn those conversations into action.

Tracey Madigan, MSW, Joins InnerWell Integrative Counseling Services

Tracey brings a natural warmth and strong empathic presence to therapy with couples and individuals. Tracey’s work as a therapist draws deeply on her extensive experience as a grief counselor, as well as her training in mindfulness-based and trauma-informed treatment approaches, and in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy. Supporting clients through the unique experience of grief has allowed her to bring an authentic presence supporting clients as they face a variety of difficult life transitions. Tracey delights in helping clients – both couples and individuals — to meet life right where they are, and to discover new possibilities for how things might unfold moving forward.

Selectboard Meeting Notes – Melrose Structures Approved for Demolition, and Permits

The Brattleboro Selectboard was missing both their Chair and Town Manager, but efficiently managed their agenda at their regular meeting Tuesday night.

The board approved of most of their annual list liquor permits and polices, though two establishments have an additional hurdle before their licenses are granted. They also approved of demolition of four buildings at Melrose Terrace, the Strolling of the Heifers received event permits, and a debate over parking meters for the Stroll will occur at a later date.

Cruisers will get up-fits, Cultural Intrigue will get technology, and the Town will get servers.

Gracie is Missing……No Longer!!!!!

My cat, Gracie, got out yesterday when some work was being done in my apartment. She is small/medium size; long haired, black and grey with white chest and paws. No collar. She does have a micro chip and is spayed. She escaped from 83 Oak Street – in between Williston and Chapin.

She is a very timid, indoor cat so I’m guessing she is probably terrified and hiding somewhere. I’ve been out several times looking for her and calling her – no luck so far. My other cat, Sava , went missing last summer in a similar situation and was gone 4 days before my neighbor discovered him napping on her porch. I’m hoping this current situation ends as happily.

Rotary District 7870 Announces the Janice H. McElroy Scholarship Program

The Rotary Club of Brattleboro is pleased to announce the initial offering of a new district wide scholarship in memory of Janice H. McElroy, who served as Rotary District 7870 Governor in 2011-2012 and was instrumental in securing a Rotary International grant of $412,000 to help southern Vermont rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Irene. This scholarship is made possible due to donations from friends, colleagues and Rotary Clubs throughout the District 7870.

Winston Prouty Center Hosts 3rd Annual Indoor Mini-Golf Classic for Grownups and Families on March 4 & 5

Winston Prouty Center for Child and Family Development is hosting its 3rd Annual Indoor Mini-Golf Tournament for grownups and families on Saturday, March 4, 2017 and Sunday, March 5, 2017, respectively. The two-day “FUN-raiser” is open to the public.

Saturday’s tournament for grownups is a black-tie optional evening that will feature light dinner fare, music, raffles, and a cash bar. The tournament will be from 6 to 9 p.m. and tickets are $25 per person.  

Sunday’s family fun day will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost is $5 per person, or only $12 for a foursome if you bring your Saturday night scorecard.
