When I Put On Your Glove by Shoshana Bass at Sandglass Theater

On November 23rd and 24th at 7:30 pm When I Put on Your Glove by Shoshana Bass will play the stage at Sandglass Theater in Putney. Last year Eric Bass took Autumn Portraits to the Lizé International Puppet Festival in Taiwan then returned to Putney to play this signature piece at Sandglass Theater for the last time. This year Shoshana will bring her adaptation of the work in When I Put on Your Glove to the festival in Taiwan and return to play on the Sandglass stage during the Putney Craft Tour weekend.


Selectboard Meeting Notes – Thanksgiving Edition

A full meeting for the Brattleboro Selectboard just prior to Thanksgiving. Discussions of the FY20 Budget, the Downtown Alliance, affordable housing, downstairs tenants driving someone nuts, and more took place, plus there was the introduction of a new 25 year plan for replacing town equipment, as well as a new suggestion to put some money aside, like a layaway plan, to buy future fire trucks.


The Lonely Heartstring Band and The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage on Saturday, November 24

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of contemporary bluegrass and folk music with The Lonely Heartstring Band and The Stockwell Brothers at Next Stage on Saturday, November 24 at 7:30 pm.

The Lonely Heartstring Band is Boston-based, Berklee College of Music graduates George Clements (guitar, vocals) Patrick M’Gonigle (fiddle, vocals) Charles Clements (bass, vocals) Matt Witler (mandolin) and Gabe Hirshfeld (banjo).  Their music is a combination of old and new styles, melding the sounds of traditional bluegrass with modern songwriting and arranging.

Please join us this Saturday for our first ever Artisan Market showcasing local artisans and crafters! In an attempt to support small businesses and local artists we are transforming our yoga studio into an indoor market stocked with jewelry, leather goods, soaps, plants, 10 minute massages, gently loved yoga gear, our new apparel line, and other great holiday gifts! Raffle prize to include two yoga blocks, a new tank top and yoga mat! We are so excited to share this time off the mat with you and to give our community members an opportunity to showcase their passions!


Brattleboro Thanksgiving Closures

 In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, all Brattleboro Town offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 22 and 23, 2018, with the exception of emergency services. 

Brooks Memorial Library will close at 6:00pm on Wednesday, November 21, and will be closed on Thursday, November 22. It will be open for regular hours on Friday and Saturday, November 23 and 24. 2018.

Ambassador Galbraith To Present Talk To Windham World Affairs Council on Nov 30

On Friday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 pm, for the fifth year in a row, Ambassador Peter W. Galbraith will address WWAC on developments in the Middle East. He will give a talk at Centre Congregational Church entitled “The US versus Iran: Will a proxy fight in Syria, Iraq and Yemen lead to War? “

Our community has come to rely on Galbraith’s knowledge and insider’s expertise on this region. He is currently working on a mediation project related to Syria and has made 12 trips into the country in the last three years.

Verandah Porche’s Play in Guilford Nov. 24 & 25

Broad Brook Anthology, a Play for Voices by Guilford poet, Verandah Porche, will be this year’s final production of Guilford Center Stage. The production is in association with Monteverdi Artists Collaborative. There will be two performances this weekend: Saturday, Nov. 24 at 6:30 pm, and Sunday the 25th at 4:00 pm, at Guilford Center Meeting House. General admission as $10 at the door.

The work, based on recollections of Guilford elders, was first performed in 2011, as part of the Town of Guilford’s 250th anniversary, and includes projected photographs by Jeff Woodward, and music by Don McLean.

The Brattleboro VFW located at 40 Black Mountain Road is open to the public for lunch. Lunch is served Mon-Fri from 11:30 – 1:30. Specials listed below are only $6 a plate. Brattleboro Selectboard Agenda and Notes – November 20, 2018

It’s the return of the 1% Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) at the next Brattleboro Selectboard meeting. The board will try once again to convince residents and businesses to add a 1% sales tax to purchases in the ‘boro, despite competition from online shopping and nearby states.

The Downtown Brattleboro Alliance will give their semi-annual report and present a budget for the coming year, a private drive will be named, finances reviewed, and the board will discuss housing, and economic & community development.

You can bring up other items not on the agenda, or a side dish, by attending the meeting at the Municipal Center on Tuesday.


40th Anniversary Year! Vermont Top 10 Winter Event, State of VT Declares Thanksgiving Weekend, Putney Craft Tour Weekend

PUTNEY, Vt—From gourd art to custom-made bicycles, farm art, and hand-knitted mittens from old sweaters, you can’t go wrong venturing “over the river and through the woods” to find the 25 working studios on Putney Vermont’s artisan trail in search of fine art and craft – and yes, the quirky and unusual, too.

The 40th Annual Putney Craft Tour, the oldest continuing craft tour in the country and a Top Ten Vermont Winter event, timed to coincide with Thanksgiving and holiday shopping, (Nov 23, 24, 25, 10-5) offers visitors a chance to meet the artists in the setting where it all happens. This year the state of Vermont is honoring the tour by proclaiming Thanksgiving weekend Putney Craft Tour Weekend.

High Street and Whipple Street Valve Nut Repair

On Monday, November 19, Utilities Crews will be working at the intersection of High Street and Whipple Street to replace a valve nut. During this time, Whipple Street will be closed and there will be restricted traffic on High Street in the area of Whipple and Oak Streets.

Brattleboro Women’s Chorus Concerts: Keep Hope Alive

The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus will present their annual fall concerts, “Keep Hope Alive,” on November 17 and 18 at The Brick Church (formerly the Baptist Church). Joining the eighty women and director Becky Graber will be Cathy Martin on piano, Julian McBrowne on bass, and Lisa McCormick on guitar and with her ukulele orchestra.

Several songs will feature arrangements by local musicians – Andy Davis’s four-part arrangement of “Let the Life I’ve Lived” and Peter Amidon’s “Crossing the Bar.” Graber arranged the wondrous song by India Arie, “I Am Light.”


Slideshow Presentation on the Spring Bird Migration in Spain

Join Mary Lea, Connie Woodberry and Putney’s Bob Lawson for a photo presentation of their birding trip to southern Spain at the Southeastern Vermont Audubon Society meeting on Tuesday, November 20. They observed some 150 species, including those moving from Africa to Spain and further north.
