While there may be many items currently on the federal legislative agenda, there is nothing more important than impeachment that results in removing Trump from office. It should be clear, to what I believe is a majority of Americans and world citizens, that the U.S. president is displaying an escalating level of mental health instability putting this country and the world at risk for catastrophic consequences. The erratic swings in the U.S. stock market often reflect the damage Trump causes by his impulsive actions.
Next Stage Arts Project presents a double bill with pianist Ben Cosgrove and guitarist Mark Kroos at Next Stage on Friday, October 18 at 7:30 pm.
Ben Cosgrove is a traveling composer-performer whose music explores themes of landscape, place and environment in North America. Ben has performed his “electric and exhilarating” instrumental music in every U.S. state except Delaware and Hawaii, and held artist residencies and fellowships with institutions including the National Park Service, the National Forest Service, Harvard University, Middlebury College, the Schmidt Ocean Institute and the Sitka Center for Art & Ecology.

Windham World Affairs Council invites you to a talk by Clare Morgana Gillis, PhD, Brattleboro resident and WWAC board member, on Friday, Oct. 25 at Centre Congregational Church. Dr. Gillis will speak on “Beheading in the age of its technological reproducibility,” examining Isis propaganda and its afterlife in news and in the popular imagination, and she will consider the effect of those images on human rights issues surrounding thousands of captured Isis foreign fighters now held in Kurdish jails in eastern Syria.
On Friday October 11, 2019 I encountered a bull moose off the beaten trail of some woods in Brattleboro. Earlier in the week on Monday, I had seen the same moose, or perhaps a different one, in the exact same location. Before I saw the moose, I had encountered a pile of his fresh poop, and marveled over how each piece was the size of an acorn!

At their next meeting, the Brattleboro Selectboard will decide if the Town will be joining Bennington in a lawsuit “to recover costs and damages from manufacturers, distributers, and retailers who have profited from the sale of opioids.” Town Attorney Bob Fisher will summarize the 175 page complaint and answer questions.
Health Insurance will be renewed for 2020, winter sand and road salt will be purchased, bulletproof vests will be funded, goals will be reviewed and an update from the solid waste district will be delivered. You can deliver your own items, not already on the agenda, during public participation.
