Next Stage “Bandwagon Summer Series” – Cantrip and É.T.É.

Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of Celtic and Québecois music from Scotland, Canada, and the US by two trios – Cantrip and E.T.E. – as part of the 2022 Next Stage “Bandwagon Summer Series” on Monday, September 5 at 3:00 pm at West River Park in Brattleboro, VT.

From the strong base of its Celtic roots, Cantrip branches out into the music of other European cultures. With swirling border pipes, raging fiddle, thunderous guitar, and three rich voices, Dan Houghton, Jon Bews, and Eric McDonald take audiences on a cultural journey, putting their own spin on each musical style. Known for their innovative arrangements, high-energy songs and tunes, and dry wit, Cantrip has toured throughout Scotland and the US, expanding the boundaries of Celtic music along the way.

Stop the Squirrel Pot Shots Please

Over this past Summer I have noticed more and more squirrels visiting our feeders showing up with nasty/raw wounds and punctures right above or behind their shoulders where you might expect a target shooter/sniper to aim and fire a B-B or pellet gun site to do the most damage. There are an increasing numbers of these squirrels now along with an amputee, one blinded in one eye, and one shot near an ear that is deformed with paralysis so this particular squirrel has a lop ear making him look like Yoda (Yes we call him Yoda). I know they are attacked or even eaten once in a while by other wild animals no matter how willy or fight aggressively among themselves, but this would only explain some amount of pervasive suffering here we see these days.

Brattleboro Planning Commission Hosting Two Neighborhood Walking Tours to Help Plan for Middle Housing

The Brattleboro Planning Commission has been actively working to understand the housing needs of our community and promote housing infill in the centers of Brattleboro and West Brattleboro. The Town received a Bylaw Modernization Grant from the Vermont Agency of Commerce and Community Development to support that ongoing work.

The Planning Commission will be hosting two community walks to explore the form and density of housing in several neighborhoods. We will be discussing the size and shapes of lots, the distance between buildings, where buildings are placed on lots, the types of residential buildings and number of units in a building. The goal is to learn about the form, character and density of neighborhoods to improve our understanding of the opportunities for and constraints on providing more places for people to live in our community. Please join us on:

The King Of Criminals

The last U.S. president has left a trail of crimes that are unprecedented in American history. A reasonable person would expect that such a high level criminal would have already been prosecuted for a few of the more egregious crimes, yet the man who may prove to be the most immoral and unethical person to live in the White House is free and has not yet been charged with a crime.

The American people need some degree of closure. We also need to have hope that Trump never again holds the office of President. The ball is in the court of the Justice Department and it will be up to Attorney General Merrick Garland to make sure that our legal system does not become another casualty in the Trump wars. It will be up to voters to destroy Trump’s political ambitions.
