Road closure on Fairview Street from the intersection of Maple Street to the intersection of Winter Street will occur on Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for tree work. No through traffic will be allowed. This closure will be weather permitting and if postponed, the alternate date is Friday, June 20th.

Motorists should plan to use alternate routes during this time period.

APRIL / MAY 2014

Premise: As a way of gathering ideas and input from a variety of Downtown stakeholders, BaBB has hosted a variety of information gathering and visioning sessions this Spring 2014.

In mid-April, we invited the general public to attend a gathering at McNeil’s Pub we called “Beautify Brattleboro”, a discussion that was centered on enhancing our community through a variety of physical improvements; in mid-May, we invited downtown business owners to attend a Merchant meeting at The Works; and at the end of May we invited folks interested in local Economic Development to attend a roundtable discussion at the Marlboro Graduate Center.

The work that that necessitated the closure of Upper Dummerston Road was completed today. Upper Dummerston Road will not be closed tomorrow, as previously planned.

Welcome to Spring! It has been a pleasure to serve as your Downtown Coordinator with Building a Better Brattleboro (BaBB) over the past few months. Since wrapping up the holiday season, we have made strides in re-examining the focus, culture and brand of the organization, as well as to reflect upon the realities of the shifting landscape we live in.

Due to equipment issues, the two-day closure of Dummerston Road where it intersects with I-91did not start today, as previously planned. The closure will occur on Monday and Tuesday, May 19 and 20, for daytime hours only, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

NOTICE OF STREET CLOSING

Union Hill will be closed to through traffic on Thursday, May 15, 2014, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., weather permitting. The street closing will allow Utilities Division personnel time to perform water main repair work near the intersection with Williams Street.

Beech Street and Union Hill residents will be able to access their properties from Western Avenue.

Good Afternoon:

We will need to close Upper Dummerston Road for two days: Friday, May 16 and Monday, May 19; the road will be open over the weekend. The closure will be for daytime hours only, 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Due to the complex and evolving nature of the project, schedule changes are necessary from time to time. We will continue to keep you updated, and appreciate your patience.

The West Brattleboro Bicycle/Pedestrian Scoping Study alternatives presentation will take place on Tuesday MAY 13, 2014 at 6PM at the ACADEMY SCHOOL. The meeting location was changed because of a special selectboard budget meeting on the same evening.

UPPER DUMMERSTON ROAD UPDATE: Upper Dummerston Road will remain open for the remainder of this week and next week. We do not anticipate any further closures of Upper Dummerston Road until later this spring or summer.

I-91

Northbound I-91 traffic has been relocated onto the southbound bridge. Traffic will remain reduced to one lane in each direction on I-91 until completion of the new bridge in the Fall of 2015.

There will be no night work the week of May 11.

Route 30

The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Spring of 2016.

UPPER DUMMERSTON CLOSURE UPDATE: Demolition work on the I-91 Bridge over Upper Dummerston Road will be halted later today, May 7. Upper Dummerston will remain open from later today through to the morning of Monday, May 12.

Our work and the Upper Dummerston Road closure will resume at 7:00 AM Monday, May 12th and will be completed Wednesday, May 14th. Upper Dummerston road will only be closed during the day from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM and will be reopened at night. We do not anticipate any night work for the closure.

An alternate route for the West River Trail that provides recreational use of the trail near the construction access road has been opened at the Marina Trailhead. Signage has been installed providing clear direction to recreational users of the trail. There are intersections between construction access and the trail; users are strongly encouraged to exercise extreme caution at these intersections. As an additional safety precaution, users of the West River Trail are reminded to keep pets on a leash when using the trail in this area.

Brattleboro is continuing its study of making it easier to walk and bicycle in West Brattleboro along Western Avenue. A grant award from the Vermont Agency of Transportation is funding the study. The Town will hold the second of three public work sessions associated with this project on May 13, 2014 at 6:00 PM, in the Selectboard Meeting Room in the Municipal Center at 230 Main Street.

RSG and Broadreach Planning & Design, hired by the Town to assist with the study, will present a variety of alternatives for creating better bicycling and walking conditions on Western Avenue. The consultants hope to reach consensus among the meeting attendees on which alternative or alternatives are most appropriate.

REVISED SCHEDULING FOR THE UPPER DUMMERSTON CLOSURE: The closing of Upper Dummerston Road will not start until this Thursday, May 1. The road will closed from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on May 1 and 2. The road will be reopened for the weekend, then will be closed again from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM daily Monday, May 5 through Friday, May 9. We do not anticipate any night work during the closure.

Come hear about the proposed new regulations that will protect our rural countryside by:

1. Permitting flexible lot sizes
2. Changing how we calculate the number of lots in a subdivision
3. Utilizing a 4-step design process that accounts for natural features
4. There will be time for Q&A and feedback.

Weather permitting, night work will be conducted Sunday night, May 4th through Friday Night, May 9th.

Route 30
The speed limit on Route 30 near the work zone has been reduced to 40 mph. This reduction will remain in effect through the Spring of 2016.

Project-related truck activity on Route 30 will continue. Route 30 will be reduced to a single lane intermittently both day and night, with flaggers regulating traffic within the work zone.

UPPER DUMMERSTON CLOSURE: Upper Dummerston Road will be closed starting at 7:00 AM Monday, April 28, 2014 for a period of up to five days. The closure date and start time will be confirmed to stakeholders a minimum of 72 hours in advance after the team is able to confirm forecasted weather conditions are acceptable for work to proceed. Once the closure begins, no through traffic will be permitted on Upper Dummerston Road through the I-91 right-of-way. Concrete demolition activities will occur around the clock and will produce elevated noise levels.
