Shoot the Moon Theater Company presents “The Glass Menagerie”

Shoot The Moon Theater Company opens its 2018 season with a production of “The Glass Menagerie” at the Hooker-Dunham Theater, Friday through Sunday, May 4-6, and Thursday through Saturday May 10-12.

This 1944 memory play that established Tennessee Williams as a major literary voice continues to be a staple in the repertory of most theater companies, including regular productions on Broadway. But artistic director Josh Moyse admits the choice is uncharacteristic for Shoot The Moon, which has forged its reputation on original works and literary adaptations

“It almost feels like cheating. I turn the page and the words are already there,” says Moyse.

Cantrip and Lindsay Straw at Next Stage on Saturday, April 21

PUTNEY –  Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present an evening of traditional and contemporary Celtic music featuring high energy bagpipes/fiddle/guitar trio Cantrip and folksinger/multi-instrumentalist Lindsay Straw at Next Stage on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 pm.  The concert celebrates Cantrip’s 20th anniversary, with the band performing a mix of brand new music, as well as their entire 2001 album “Silver.”

From the strong base of its Celtic roots, Cantrip branches out into the music of other European cultures.  Weaving together songs and tunes, Dan Houghton, Jon Bews and Eric McDonald take an audience on a cultural journey, putting their own spin on each style.  Known for their innovative arrangements, un-produced sound and dry wit, Cantrip has toured throughout Scotland and the US, expanding the boundaries of Celtic music along the way.

12 Senators On The 12th Write a Letter to the FCC

Recently, I saw a story about 12 senators sending a letter to the FCC about the Sinclair Broadcasting company..

This article is full of coincidences. 12 Senators on the 12th of April. April 12th is the 102 day of the year. 102 is 12 in numerology. In Gematria,  FCC=12 in English Ordinal. F is the 6th letter, C is the 3rd. 6+3+3=12. Think of the symbolism of the number 12. 12 months in a year. 12 disciples of Jesus, 12 tribes of Israel, 12  signs of the Zodiac. Time is measured in 2 groups of 12, the 12 labors of Heracles. The 12 step program. 12 is the square root of 144. 144,000 is a significant number for religious people.

Artist at MGFA with Matt Brown featuring Live Demonstration

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is excited to host an Artist Talk with Matt Brown on Saturday, April 21 at 5pm. Brown will be discussing his current exhibit “Conversations with Color Woodblock Prints”, on display at Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts through May 6. The talk will include a demonstration by Brown of the Japanese hanga method of printmaking used by Hokusai, Kunisada and Hiroshige, a technique in which each print is created entirely by hand using water and pigments applied to multiple carved wooden blocks. One woodblock corresponds to one color within a print, and each is transferred to paper by a small hand-held baren.

“Conversations with Color Woodblock Prints” features over 40 prints, with many new pieces, as well as watercolor and pencil studies, working proofs and progressive states, providing viewers a glimpse into the artist’s continuous dialogue with his imagery and materials. Often changes made over several years create subtle, or dramatic, re-imagining of Brown’s initial vision.

Stage 33 Live, A Casual Intro

Stage 33 Live is bringing River HALO and The Break Maids together for a concert this Sunday evening, April 15, at 33 Bridge Street in Bellows Falls. Doors at 6. All ages. Admission by donation. Recording for broadcast. Seating is limited to 50, plus standing room.

If you haven’t heard of Stage 33 Live, that’s no surprise. We’re new. And sporadic. And unusual. And evolving. We’re like the local love child of Ted Talks, eTown, Science Friday, BackStory, and The Little Rascals (“hey kids, let’s put on a show”). It’s a celebration of local and regional original humanities and science presentations and performances, spoken word arts, and music presented as a broadcast and web variety program, recorded during live listening events on a simple stage in a former industrial building in Bellows Falls, Vermont; a nonprofit endeavor run entirely by volunteers. Festival of the Sublime: Music, Photography, Dance, Auction

Welcome to an extraordinary festival to benefit community building at 118 Elliot from 4 – 10:30 this Saturday, April 14th. There will be a fun combination of music, dance, photography and art to benefit the final stages of the construction of the Mahalo Gathering Hall Project: https://www.gofundme.com/MahaloGatheringHall .

Why is it SUBLIME? Think of the term Sublime as a catalyst that causes change to structures and forms. This reaches far beyond the scope of any present conceptions of beauty and harmony. The Sublime is simultaneously omnipresent and unattainable. It is all-encompassing, yet seems to evade us in our everyday lives, when we often shift our focus to many distractions.

ACLU Calls On Local Governments To Pursue Public Broadband

As Brattleboro begins down the path toward adding municipal broadband utility, the ACLU has weighed in with a new report “The Public Internet Option – How Local Governments Can Provide Network Neutrality, Privacy, and Access for All.”

The report compares the necessity of internet access to that of electricity and water, and says that the rollback of net neutrality laws and enforcement threatens equal access (as we have for say, roads and bridges).

The Numbers Behind the Story of Juli Briskman Flipping Off President Trump

Gematria is the practice of coding numbers into words.  In the beginning, according to the Book of Formation, which is similar to the story in Genesis, God merged the word and letter with the number. In Genesis, each verse begins: “And God said”. God speaks the world into existence over the course of six numbered days, before resting on the seventh day and making it holy.
