45th Christmas at Christ Church: “Such Wondrous Tidings”

Guilford, Vt. – Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG) presents its 45th Christmas at Christ Church performances on Friday, Dec. 15, at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 16, at 4:00 p.m. That historic building is on Rt. 5 at the corner of Melendy Hill Rd., just over a mile from Exit 1 off Interstate 91. This season’s theme, “Such Wondrous Tidings,” is the title of one of ten mostly 15th-century carols to be sung by the thirteen-voice Guilford Chamber Singers, directed for a sixth season by Tom Baehr.

On Monday, December 11, at 6:30 PM, genealogist Jerry Carbone will discuss the genealogical treasures of the online content of Americanancestors.org, in his talk, “Navigating the Online Portal for New England Genealogical Research, AmericanAncestors.org,” in the Brooks Memorial Library meeting room, beginning at 6:30 PM.


Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time at Brooks Memorial Library

Don’t miss this year’s Holly Jolly Gingerbread Craft Time on Saturday, December 9 at Brooks Memorial Library. Come make edible houses out of graham crackers, icing and candy. Younger kids can make edible Christmas trees from ice cream cones, frosting and candy. This year we are offering two sessions: session one runs from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and session two runs from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In order to ensure we have enough goodies for everyone, registration is strongly recommended – please contact the Children’s Room at 254-5290 x110. This event is free and donations of nonperishable food items for Project Feed the Thousands are appreciated. Children under 10 must have a responsible person with them. Sandglass Theater’s Crankie Celebration

PUTNEY- A crankie is an old storytelling art form that has recently become popular again. A long illustrated scroll is wound around two spools and set into a box with a viewing window. The scroll is hand cranked, the unfolding story narrated, sung or just accompanied by music. This December Sandglass Theater is holding a crankie fundraising celebration with events including performances, a crankie building workshop and an online auction of crankies built by local artists.

47th Community Messiah Sing: A Benefit for the Homeless

Brattleboro, Vt. – Friends of Music at Guilford (FOMAG) invites singers and music lovers in the Tri-State region to start their holiday season at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, with the 47th annual Community Messiah Sing, a benefit for the homeless. Centre Congregational Church, at 193 Main Street in Brattleboro, has been home for the Sing since 1982 and for a few prior seasons as well.
