The legendary “Fat Lady” was Kate Smith who had a wonderful contralto voice.
She sang “God Bless America” at the end of NY Yankee games for years.
Yankee catcher Yogi Berra changed the saying to “It’s not over till it’s over”, which is the situation we’re in right now with the presidential election.
Trump refuses to concede, and is initiating numerous lawsuits which could prolong uncertainty for a very long time.
It has been suggested that the conservative-leaning Supreme Court might throw out all ballots received after election day, thus giving the election to Trump.
Stranger things have happened.
Republican Dissent
“The President has now resorted to overt pressure on state and local officials to subvert the will of the people and overturn the election. It is difficult to imagine a worse, more undemocratic action by a sitting American president” Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah)
Not Kate Smith
The full aphorism goes like this, “The opera ain’t over until the fat lady sings.” The point is that the stars of opera were often women of substantial size, and at some point in every opera they would take over the stage for an aria. If you’re watching the opera and it hasn’t happened yet, then there is obviously more to come. This has nothing to do with Kate Smith, who was not an opera singer but rather a radio performer of popular songs. And BTW, the election is over, even if the fat man hasn’t conceded.
