Amazing! Cris Ericson got over 10% of the Vote for US Senator!
http://www.politico.com/2016-election/results/map/senate/vermont
P. Leahy (i) 89.1% 61,111
C. Ericson 10.9% 7,476
I, Cris Ericson, am so happy to thank Vermonters for giving me over 10% of the vote for United States Senator competing against U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, especially considering that he refused to debate me or meet me in any forum, showing his utter disregard for low income widow women, of which I am one. Just another example of rich people squashing poor people like bugs.
Government is supposed to be of, by and for the people, including low income widow women.
I will be on the Nov. 8, 2016 general election ballot for U.S. Senator competing against U.S. Senator Patrick Leahy, only this time as a candidate for the United States Marijuana Party.
I have been “teaching” Vermonters about marijuana legalization starting in 2002 when I first ran for governor in Vermont, and every two years since then. I am happy to see people talking more hopefully about making marijuana legal.
When I saw so many Democratic governor candidates talking about making marjijuana legal, I knew I had done my job as a “teacher” very well. I have succeeded as a “teacher”, even though I have almost a tear in my eye for losing another election, I know I have brought the marijuana conversation and other topics forward.
I only received close to 1% of the vote Aug. 9, 2016 for governor; but more than that in personal satisfaction in seeing so many Democratic governor candidates talk about legalizing marijuana, which was just unheard of, except for me talking about it, when I ran for governor in 2002.
Other hopeful candidates who would like to oust United States Patrick Leahy on Nov. 8, 2016, as well as me,
include Scott Milne, Jerry Trudell and Windham County’s own Peter Diamondstone.

Thanks for running
I’m sure many people (nearly 11%) were pleased to see a choice for US Senator on their ballots. I bet a few of those votes were anti-Leahy statements.
Well, this does seem to be
Well, this does seem to be the year for batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified people doing better than they should in the polls.
And yes, I agree with Cgrotke that its likely protest votes against Leahy for his behavior during Sanders’ candidacy.
batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified
An expected comment from a truly batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified person.
You forgot paid shill. Did
You forgot paid shill.
Did you figure out that wingtip vortices are a thing yet?
No need for your jetwash
I don’t know eschmitt personally but just from his comments here on iBrattleboro I know he is anything but a “truly batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified person.”
Chris Erickson
The same thing can be said about Chris Erickson.
Ironically
His comment fits #Trumpthefraud to a T.
won't fly/won't fit
I’ve read enough of Cris Ericson and Donald Trump to say that any attempt to align “eschmitt” in any way with them won’t fly and is not a fit.
Opacity
I think that I was a little opaque.
What I was trying to say is that I believe Chris Erickson is anything but a “truly batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified person.”
And again, this is what I think: Donald Trump is indeed a “truly batshit crazy, ignorant, and utterly unqualified person.”
And I’d like to add, that I think Hillary together with Bill constitute a criminal enterprise.
Two choices for senate blank
My protest “vote” against Leahy was to leave the circles for the two choices blank.
Same here. I voted for Leahy
Same here. I voted for Leahy every time around for quite a while now, but the DNC’s behavior during Sanders’ presidential candidacy and the lack of support from VT’s democratic honchos, Leahy included, has cost anyone with a D next to their name my vote come November. I intend to write in Bernie’s name.
Teaching about marijuana legalization ??
Cris E: “I have been “teaching” Vermonters about marijuana legalization starting in 2002 when I first ran for governor in Vermont,… When I saw so many Democratic governor candidates talking about making marjijuana legal, I knew I had done my job as a “teacher” very well. I have succeeded as a “teacher”,…”
The reason why Daryl Pillsbury (former VT State Representative), myself and others started Marijuana Resolve in March 2010 was to “teach” Vermonters that marijuana decriminalization was critical because we knew that the VT legislature would “not” be legalizing marijuana anytime soon.
We felt that decriminalization was an important “harm-reduction” measure to help keep young people out of prison and not have a criminal record to live with.
Six years ago we had a tough time trying to get the VT legalizers to understand that, and many worked directly against us and would not support decriminalization. (And, then naturally, in 2011, MPP got into the decrim “act” and kinda took over…
Believe me, Daryl and I have no regrets about working on the unpopular decrim back then.
The biggest reason why the legislature kicked into gear about legalization, wasn’t because of legalization supporters, who they largely ignored, but because of the legalization laws in three other states.
Now, six years later, even Jeanette White is not convinced this legislature will be legalizing marijuana in the next session, and if they do, VT will have the worst legalization laws in the country..
Prohibition
Vermonters and other Americans spent the better part of a century trying to outlaw alcohol, which demonstrably has far greater negative impact on society than marijuana. In 1920 they succeeded, with disastrous consequences. You’d think we might learn something.
Marijuana prohibition hasn’t resulted in any Al Capones, but millions (yes, millions) of young people had their lives ruined, not by the evil weed, but by the evil draconian laws instituted to combat it. You’d think we might learn something.
It’s about time we approached this “problem” with rational measures designed to protect our youth while preserving individual freedoms.
BTW, I recently read that it’s easier for a high school kid to obtain “grass” than it is to buy tobacco. (It should be!)
It should be!
I you gave me a choice between high school people drinking and/or smoking cigarettes to advocate something better and safer for them it would be marijuana.

Here here!
Addendum
VC: “Now, six years later, even Jeanette White is not convinced this legislature will be legalizing marijuana in the next session, and if they do, VT will have the worst legalization laws in the country..”
The part I wrote: “VT will have the worst legalization laws in the country” is my viewpoint, not Jeanette’s. I know Jeanette is disappointed with the legislature’s failure to enact legalization.
I should also note, I’m sorry to say, that Cris Ericson very likely had a negative impact on marijuana legalization during these past 14 years that she ran for governor. She was and is more showmanship that a credible candidate and therefore had no real impact on the legislature and not much impact on the voters in Vermont.
Therefore, in 2010, Daryl and I knew it was imperative to nudge the legislature to decrim, as I said, as a harm-reduction measure while we were waiting for a legislature that is still woefully out of step with the large number of voters in this state who support legalization (Cris Ericson not withstanding).
