Can An Astute President-to-Be Donald Trump Get Away With Maintaining a Blind Eye to the Genocide in Gaza? by jay janson
Genocide Denial
We’ve had Holocaust Denial. Now we have the phenomenon of Genocide Denial in spite of the plethora of photographs and videos of the obliterated cites of the Gaza Strip, of the deliberate demolition of neighbourhoods, cultural sites, and essential facilities” in violation of international law.
President-elect Donald Trump has been impressive in his statements and comments since his overwhelming election. He speaks with authority and determination in his voice promising to resolve the nations problems and take the high road morally on all issues.
All the more perplexing is Trump’s maintaining silence at best, and at worse contradicting reality regarding the genocide in Gaza by saying the judges of the International Court of Justice must be sanctioned for issuing an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and his minister of defense.
CIA monitored U.S. and Western news and information conglomerates have been consistently focusing telecast time and attention on the October 7, 2023 Hamas led guerrilla attack and capture of hostages (rarely mentioning that the hostages were taken to exchange for some of the thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons). Western media initially headlined the most absurd items of macabre killings, 40 babies decapatated, women raped and dragged through the streets even described publicly by U.S. President Biden.
Two days after the October 7 attack, on October 9th, 2023, Israeli Defence Minister Gallant announced,
“I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed.”
But by international law an occupying power is responsible for the well being of its militarily occupied population.
United Nations Secretary-General’s speaking to the Security Council on Oct 24, 2023 sought to calm Israeli’s leaders, who were already heavily bombing Israel’s long subjugated Gaza Palestinians under illegal military occupation.
“It is important to also recognise the attacks by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation.”
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated on November 6, 2023, that
“Gaza is becoming a graveyard for children,”
Earlier, UNICEF Spokesperson James Elder remarked on October 31, 2023, that “Gaza has become a graveyard for thousands of children,” This was an observation after only three weeks of the relentless bombing, shelling and demolitions that will go on for more than a year.
The U.N. special rapporteur to the occupied Palestinian territory claimed this week that Israel does not have a right to self-defense against Hamas under international law and accused the country of committing “war crimes.
“Israel cannot claim the right of self-defense against a threat that emanates from a territory it occupies, from a territory that is under belligerent occupation,”
The comments from Francesca Albanese came November 16, 2023, during an address to the National Press Club of Australia, when she deemed Israel’s right to self-defense “non-existent” under international law as she took aim at the war-torn country for its “unrelenting bombardment of Gaza” and other actions. However, all this was over a year ago, and since then, especially disseminated by social media world wide, are the photos and videos of the obviously genocidal annihilation of Gaza’s cities along with some fifty thousand of Gaza’s population of mostly women and children. Heart wrenching photos and videos of dead or maimed or orphaned adorable little children standing horror stricken in the rubble of their homes.
By now these horrific photos and videos have been seen by a billion or maybe billions of people and has generated great anger around the world that it has not been stopped.
Trump has proved himself in knowing how to manage public opinion at home in the United States, but during the four years since Trump was president, world public opinion, with the advent of social media, has become influential in home grown social media in America. How does one imagine Trump could possibly think he can get away with giving a blind eye to the genocide, while the whole world watches kids die in bombings and of starvation and diseases long occurring for the lack of sanitation in the crowded tent encampments.
Palestinian Lives Matter
“Do Palestinian lives mean nothing?” asked China’s senior envoy, Fu Cong after the U.S.vetoed a UN Security Council demanding a Ceasefire for the fifth time. Obviously, Palestinian lives are less than nothing for a genocide denier. The prime genocide denier is of course the U.S. government that sends Israel the bombs, bullets, missiles and warplanes so Israel can kill Palestinians.
As the suffering and dying in Gaza becomes ever more intense and widespread; as the U.S. enabled Israeli military’s relentless daily killing of many Palestinians goes on, and if merciless starvation spreads to engulf a million or more Palestinians in Gaza, more nations of the Global South and the BRICS will be actively seeking legal action for Palestinian freedom and against Israel’s further illegal military occupation.
Whether or not Trump continues on with his present pro Israel public posture, his long close friendship with, and political support for, criminally insane Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might turn out to be a political liability both internationally and locally at home.
Genocide denial will certainly not fit in with ‘making America great again.’
