The attached image illustrates surveillance cameras installed in a street in Communist China. Fortunately we live in a free country where such things don’t exist (except on Main Street in Brattleboro).

Brattleboro lights
Downtown cameras don’t take or store photos. We asked about this when they were installed and wrote about it back then.
They are to sense if traffic is in the lane and if the lights need to change.
Other towns grab license plates with cameras and do other things, but you’re okay here. For now at least.

A majority of businesses in town and across the country have cameras. Many private homes have surveillance cameras plus all the ring doorbells. The parking garage has cameras thru out and the Police have cameras they can place in trouble spots. Or they did. The highly visible devices on Main St, and Putney Rd. are video detectors for controlling traffic lights as Chris said above.

They don’t seem to work very well.
Otto von Bismarck (Chancellor of the German Empire) once said “Never believe anything the government tells you until it has been officially denied.”
