Just a quick observation that this is the first year in many years that we have a “normal” downtown Brattleboro. No burned out buildings are sitting or being repaired, no road paving projects are scheduled, and no sidewalks are being torn up.
Anything can happen, and things can change, but it is nice to have a bit of time to enjoy downtown Brattleboro rather than just fix and clean it year after year.
Looking good
I’ve been pleasantly surprised that downtown has been hanging in there despite how not great the economy has been. Granted, some of the new places aren’t really geared toward me, and I confess I was a bit sad to see a music store go out and an ice cream shop move in (doesn’t that make two now? in a town with generally cool to cold weather). Be that as it may, change is good, right? 😉
The other thing is that downtown seems to have plenty of people populating it even at night, with restaurants serving, the movie theatre, the bars, and the new venue at 188 Elliot (the Laundromat) hosting events. It seems more active to me, day and night and especially on the weekends. Or maybe it’s just the time of year.
Not having dusty construction going on is a plus, much as I realize why it has to happen.
