The elevator at the Brattleboro Transportation Center was taken offline at the end of October, 2019 following an act of vandalism which destroyed the communications equipment within the elevator and rendered the unit out of compliance with applicable building safety code. The cab of the elevator was already scheduled for replacement in the FY20 Parking Capital program and so rather than repair the damage the decision was made to initiate the cab replacement project.
At the time it was believed that the cab replacement could be completed quickly. Unfortunately this has not turned out to be the case. While deconstruction of the existing elevator cab has already begun, the new cab, which is under construction off site, was delayed during the holiday season. The new cab is not expected to arrive on site until the end of January or very early February. Once on site, we expect the installation will take three weeks. As a result, we do not expect the new elevator to be fully operational until the second half of February.
We apologize for any inconvenience that these delays have caused the public, especially those that rely on the elevator for accessibility. Please direct questions or concerns to Assistant Town Manager Patrick Moreland at 251-8101. Thank you.
