A Safety Improvement Project at the intersection of Western Avenue, Union Hill, and Cedar Street will begin on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 with a projected completion in June, approximately six weeks. The Department of Public Works will be working on the project from 7:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. daily.
During this construction period, Union Hill and Cedar Street will be closed at the intersection and pedestrian traffic will be allowed via a temporary crosswalk.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes while this project is being completed and the Department requests that motorists reduce their speed in the construction area.
If there are questions or concerns about this project, please contact the Department of Public Works at 802-254-4255 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..

Couldn’t this worthy project be put off until school closes for the summer? Many school buses drive through this intersection twice a day, and a goodly number of school kids and their parents walk to and from Green Street School twice a day. At these times Western Avenue in front of the Crowell Lot is full of parked cars either loading or unloading school kids. Common sense should rule here.

A sign directing people to RT 30 via Spruce street for those six weeks would be helpful to out of town motorists.
Also, coming from Rt 30 and up Spruce to get to I-91. : )
This will be a strange mix of being really nice and inconvenient at the same time. The reduction in traffic on the street could be great; the habit of personal walking and driving patterns will be disrupted. I’m going to guess that the pros will outweigh the cons. We’ll see.
