The Brattleboro Selectboard has one final chance to cut their FY26 spending at Tuesday night’s regular meeting. More likely it will be approved as is.
The board will also take a third look at the ordinance governing the downtown improvement district. You can bring up other items not on the agenda during public participation.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 6:15pm in the Selectboard Meeting Room at the Brattleboro Municipal Center (230 Main Street, Room 212) and over Zoom. The attached agenda contains information on how to access the meeting remotely, including the required “passcode.” ASL interpreters will be available for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members. In a memorandum dated January 21, 2025 Town Clerk Hilary Francis discusses the Retreat Farm’s Annual Entertainment License renewal with updated hours. The current license allows for entertainment to take place between the hours of 5-10pm, Thursday through Sunday. They are seeking to update this license to allow for entertainment on Monday through Thursday from 2-10pm, Friday and Saturday from 12pm-12am, and Sunday from 12-10pm. Staff have reviewed and recommend approval of this license. By approving the Consent Agenda, the Board will approve an Annual Entertainment License renewal with updated hours for the Retreat Farm, located at 45 Farmhouse Square.
In a memorandum dated January 14, 2025 DPW Director Dan Tyler discusses Change Order #8 for the Pleasant Valley Water Treatment Facility. By approving the Consent Agenda, the Board will approve Change Order #8, for a sum of $1,319.43 and 132 contract days, for various cost increases and credits related to the Pleasant Valley Water Treatment Facility upgrade.
In a memorandum dated January 17, 2025 Town Manager John Potter discusses a parade permit request from Vera Riley to hold a Women’s March on Saturday, January 18th, 2025 at 9:30am. The parade permit was approved by staff, but the application came too late to place on a Selectboard agenda for approval, which is why the Board is asked to ratify this permit now. The participants marched on sidewalks and crosswalks; no street closures were necessary. By approving the Consent Agenda, the Board will ratify a parade permit for The Women’s March on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 9:30am.

A. Chapter 15 (Downtown Improvement District) Ordinance Change – Third Reading (6:35 PM)
In a memorandum dated January 10, 2025 Planning Director Sue Fillion discusses the proposed changes to the Brattleboro Code of Ordinances Chapter 15, Municipal Act to Establish and Regulate the Downtown Improvement District. This is a third reading. The Board is asked to consider the proposed changes and to possibly adopt them.
POTENTIAL MOTION: TO ADOPT THE CHANGES TO THE BRATTLEBORO CODE OF ORDINANCES, CHAPTER 15 MUNICIPAL ACT TO ESTABLISH AND REGULATE THE DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT ACT.
B. FY 26 Selectboard General Fund Budget – Approve (6:50 PM)
In a memorandum dated January 17, 2025 Town Manager John Potter discusses the FY26 Selectboard General Fund Budget and Capital Plan. The Board is asked to review and possibly adopt the budget.
