Your regular space for things you notice as you walk, bike, skate, or even drive around Brattleboro that are worth noting. Add things in the comments all season long, such as:
- The “Marketplace” sign on the River Garden has been taken down.
- Construction vehicles are pretty much gone from the Humane Society lot now.
Fenced in
It looks as though a fence is being installed around the old car wash and restaurant on Canal St.
Leaves Us SDH
Foliage is busting out all over. We have some bright yellows and 70s orange here in West B. Peepers are clogging Hogback, as usual.
Pies and parking
– Dummerston pie baking is underway – they are currently closing in 600 finished pies. More to come, too.
– The new parking kiosks have arrived and are being installed. I saw one going in at Main and Elliot. Kinda small and not very obvious.
Exit 3
This isn’t specific to Fall, but the pavement at Exit 3 roundabout is in bad shape. There are deep grooves that vehicles need to either drive in, or drive up and over. It’s not so bad ride-wise but it is a big distraction and causes drivers to look down at the road a bit more than they should have to when there are so many cars merging there.
I’m guessing they are letting it go and will fix it whenever they re-do Putney Rd and put in all the new circles. Was that supposed to be 2025?
Halloween Reaching New Levels
Halloween decorations are being taken to new levels around town. All sorts of large haunted creatures and scenes are popping up.
One of the newer innovations, for example, is the easy availability of plastic skeletons of all sizes. I’ve been seeing some very creative skeleton poses.
Another is large scale spiderwebs – 6-8 feet with light-up webbing!
I’ve also seeing enormous spiders hanging on the sides of houses, large deathly creatures and a lifelike wolverine. Pumpkins abound, of course.
Dropping in popularity a bit this year – I haven’t seen any, yet – seems to be the little witches smashing into things. : )
Spiders and Skeletons
In and around BMH, there are Halloween decorations galore. I loved the skeleton army in the labs area. Nice giant skeletons are my fave, though.
first walk from DiscoBev back downtown
First time on the new Marlboro Road sidewalk. Looks to be of excellent quality and should last decades before erosion demands maintenance.
Some snowflakes in the hills
I’m sure this is localized to just a few areas, but a few snowflakes were seen this morning falling in the region.
Get yourself a masonic center!
Sign’s been there for a bit but I don’t think anyone has mentioned the Masonic Center being for sale downtown.
That would be a great place for a restaurant/bar/club, among other things. There’s old kitchen space in the back, a room with a stage, a bowling alley in the basement, gorgeous woodwork, ceremonial rooms upstairs. On street and parking lot parking available, easy to walk to, big porch…
(You can send the sale commission directly to me…)
Sales Commission?
Check Vermont licensing laws.
Friendly's Building on its way out
The chain link fence surrounding the decrepit Friendly’s building has been removed, and someone was trimming more brush there today, probably in anticipation of demolition equipment moving in.
Signs, signs, everywhere are signs
Political signs all over town. Seems pretty much half and half.
With buildings down...
New views of town from Canal Street….
Parking Meter Harvest Underway
The downtown parking meters are being cut down and harvested.
Must be ripe!
