On July 13, the Town’s Emergency Management Team received an update from the National Weather Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The National Weather Service anticipates possible storms in Brattleboro starting Thursday evening through Friday night and again on Sunday. However, the group indicated the risk of major flooding or significant loss of infrastructure in Brattleboro is low.
The Town will be monitoring the situation and making preparations for isolated events should they occur. Emergency services are preparing for the possibility of issues related to roads and homes around town that experienced flooding earlier in the week. Additionally, they are preparing for the possibility of stronger winds.
Brattleboro’s emergency services will be on standby and taking all necessary precautions to address any potential impact.
All roads in town are passable at this time. You can monitor road closures in Brattleboro by viewing our online street map at https://www.mapsonline.net/brattleborovt/index.html.
The Vermont Agency of Transportation is advising those who plan to travel throughout the state to first check for road closure information on the New England 511 website at newengland511.org/region/Vermont.
All drivers are advised to exercise caution. While the waters may have receded, the damage left in their wake can still pose a threat to drivers. Potholes, debris, and other hazards can be difficult to spot, especially at night or in inclement weather. Never drive through flooded roadways. Avoid driving over or near downed power lines, and call emergency services immediately. Keep a safe distance from downed power lines until help arrives. If you have an emergency, dial “911.”
