Tired of long Brattleboro Selectboard meetings? You aren’t alone. At their next special meeting the board will consider using a “consent agenda” as a way to potentially speed things up on a trial basis for the next few months.
The board will also take up a few other matters that slipped through the cracks recently due to… long meetings. They’ll hear about a plan for sustainability, financial reports, the revised Long Term Financial Plan, and will et a schedule to hammer of the FY22 budget. You can bring up other itmes not on the agenda during public participation.

The Brattleboro Selectboard will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at 6:15pm using Zoom (with no physical location due to the ongoing social distancing requirements of COVID-19). The attached agenda and administrative report contain information about how to access the meeting remotely, including the required “passcode.” Information about how to connect to the meeting is also posted on the homepage of the Town’s website. ASL interpreters will be available for deaf and hard-of-hearing community members.

A. Sustainability Update and Workplan Sustainability Coordinator Stephen Dotson will present a summary of his work during the first 8 months of this newly created position, as well as a look ahead to the projects and priorities on the near and longer term horizon. A written summary of that report is included in the backup materials for this meeting.

B. Monthly Financial Report – September Town Manager Elwell will present the financial report for September 2020.

C. FY20 Year-End Financial Report – Final But Unaudited Results Town Manager Elwell will present the preliminary unaudited FY20 Year-End Financial Report.

D. Long Term Financial Plan – 2020 Update for FY22-FY26 Town Manager Elwell will present the 2020 update of the Long Term Financial Plan.

E. Proposed Schedule of Meetings for Consideration of Proposed FY22 Budget As the FY22 Budget discussions approach, staff is recommending several meetings be scheduled from November through January. Enclosed in the Board’s back-up materials is a proposed meeting schedule.

F. Potential Use of a Consent Agenda The Board is asked to authorize the implementation of a consent agenda for future Selectboard meetings. In a memorandum dated October 21, Town Manager Elwell explains how the consent agenda would work and also describes several other alternatives that could enable the Selectboard to conduct all of its business in an orderly manner without holding 5 or 6 hour meetings.
POTENTIAL MOTION: TO AUTHORIZE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF A CONSENT AGENDA ON A TRIAL BASIS FOR THE SELECTBOARD MEETINGS IN NOVEMBER, DECEMBER, AND JANUARY.
