The Department of Public Works received an alert of a high water flow on Wednesday July 24, 2019 at 10pm.
Utilities Crews responded to Route 9 in West Brattleboro for a reported water main break.
The crew determined the break was on a 16 inch water main. The water main was shut down at approximately 11pm. Over 500,000 gallons of water were lost due to the leak. Edward Heights will be without water until the repairs have been made. Route 9 was closed just west of Dollar General and traffic is being detoured though a parking lot.
During the break the water pressure decreased in the higher elevations of the water system. Customers may experience air or discolored water, we advise customers to run a cold water faucet until the water is clear. Utilities employees will be flushing water hydrants in areas to restore water.
We expect the water service to be restored by noon today. The roadway will be temporally repaired, final restoration and road repair will take place next week. We expect the roadway to be reopen by 3pm today.
Please contact the Department of Public Works @ 802-254-4255 if you have any questions or concerns.
