Another opportunity to list the little things that have caught your eye about town. Such as:
– New parking lot at the Post Office
– The collection of stores just over the West River has branded the building “On The Waterfront” – (which brings to mind relaxing thoughts of corruption and longshoremen: “You don’t understand! I coulda had class. I coulda been a contender. I coulda been somebody instead of a bum, which is what I am.”)
– Old West Brattleboro Fire Station demolished.

I just saw that sign the other day and thought exactly the same thing!
A somewhat odd sign, right?

A Big One
The roundabout at Exit 3 has been reconfigured.
Right line may ONLY turn right now. It’s all been repainted to reflect the change, but it will take some getting used to, especially for people who used to get in the right lane then go all the way around. Can’t do that anymore.
And it's about time!
I drive through the roundabout every single day, and have always driven the way it’s intended, being experienced with roundabouts and rotaries elsewhere. Finally the signage and road striping explicitly instructs drivers. Although I’m sure there will still be close calls, human nature being what it is.
Roundabout
I drove through the roundabout 4 times yesterday….and 4 times I saw cars, when exiting from the inner lane, cross over the solid line into the right hand lane narrowly missing cars already in that right turn lane.
Driving wrong
To do that now the driver has to cross some significant, painted warning lines telling them not to do it. If they follow the lane markings, they’d be fine.
The two times I’ve been through I had the same experience – drivers ignoring the new rules and lines and endangering others in the process.
Hopefully the people who weren’t already doing it this way will learn the new routine quickly.
Round and round
Given how many people seem to think they’re supposed to jump in the outer lane and and stay in it until they exit, no matter what, I think it will take more than lane markings to get people to do it right. Maybe they’re trying to train people for the new and improved Putney Road when the state installs 4 more circles there!
