Next WBA Meeting Scheduled for Thursday, September 11th
The next monthly meeting of the West Brattleboro Association (WBA) will be held at the New England House
on Thursday, September 11th at 6:00 PM. After a review of the treasury and other ongoing items, the group will begin discussing the “Revitalizing Southern Vermont’s Villages – West Brattleboro” report made
available from the Windham Regional Commission and the Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation.
Particular items that the WBA will discuss are the four key strategies listed in the report which was put
together with input from our group and the West Brattleboro Master Plan. Specifically: Support Community Development; Enhance the Streetscape; Improve Pedestrian and Bicycle Connectivity; and Support Economic Development. The WBA has been an advocate of bettering each of these strategies including pushing for the repaving of Route 9 (now done!) and the betterment of safer bike lanes and pedestrian crosswalks (still in progress). Michael Bosworth, President of WBA, is particularly interested in discussing the ‘Actions, Timeframes, and Responsibilities’ section of the report.
The WBA may schedule a meeting later in the fall dedicated just to this Revitalizing West Brattleboro report.
The group will revisit the August 28th village movie night for the community and have a
discussion of potential future village events including additional movie nights during the fall. Other items on the agenda are an update on the status of our new welcome signs including their potential locations on eastern and western ends of the village of West B along the Route 9 corridor, West Brattleboro beautification efforts, a Columbus Day weekend chicken barbecue; and the possibility of roadside historic site markers in our village. The group is also pursuing becoming a Vermont non-profit.
The purpose of the Association is to promote the thoughtful and effective evolution of the community of West Brattleboro as a place that is safe, healthy, attractive, and prosperous. In the case of the March meeting, the goal is to help West B residents be informed Brattleboro community members. Check out the group’s website at www.westbrattleboro.org or join us at our meetings. They’re open to all residents and business owners. # # #
