Expect Weekend Traffic Delays on I-91 in Brattleboro Area

The traveling public is advised to expect traffic delays on I-91 northbound between Exits 2 and 3 in the Brattleboro area. These delays are likely to occur during periods of high traffic volume. Expect delays on I-91 Northbound on Friday afternoon and evening, and on I-91 Southbound on Sunday afternoon. Special consideration should be given to the start and end of Holidays as well.

The State of Vermont is in the process of replacing the old two-lane bridges that span the West River and VT Route 30 with a new four-lane bridge. Due to space constraints, one of the old two-lane bridges had to be demolished to make room to construct the new four-lane bridge. Until the new bridge is completed, all northbound and southbound traffic will use the remaining two-lane bridge. As a consequence, both northbound and southbound traffic has been reduced to a single lane in each direction, leading to unavoidable traffic delays during periods of high traffic volumes.

Motorists with flexible travel plans are encouraged to schedule their travel to avoid high travel periods or use VT Route 5 as an alternate route.

The State and project team have taken a number of steps to alert the traveling public, including signs on the interstate, notifications on our 511 travel advisory system, a project website (http://www.i91brattleborobridge.com), making information about the project available at local rest areas, and e-mail notifications to stakeholders.

If you would like more information about the bridge replacement project, or would like to receive e-mail notices of future travel restrictions associated with this project, please visit the project website (http://www.i91brattleborobridge.com), or contact Public Relations Officer Cindy Cook at ccook@adamantaccord.com or (802) 223-1330.
