BRATTLEBORO SELECTBOARD
MONDAY, MAY 5, 2014
SPECIAL MEETING – 5:00PM
EXECUTIVE SESSION – 5:00PM
SELECTBOARD MEETING ROOM
AGENDA
1. CONVENE MEETING
2. EXECUTIVE SESSION – Personnel Matter
3. ADJOURNMENT
A personnel matter
I keep wondering whether these “personnel” matters that the Selectboard keeps discussing in executive session are actually budget discussions cloaked as personnel matters in order to avoid a public discussion. Since they are talking about eliminating certain positions, they could stretch the meaning of “personnel matter.”
I asked the interim town manager if this is the case. He said that he agrees with me that the budget cannot be discussed in executive session, but when I asked him to give his word of honor that it will not be a budget discussion cloaked as a personnel matter, he neither affirmed nor denied it. (Of course he is busy and could have overlooked my question.)
As for the improper wording of the warning regarding the anticipated executive session: That seems to have become so habitual lately, that I wonder if I should just stop getting annoyed by it and figure it’s like railing against the rain.
