This year’s hallowe’en celebration was our darkest ever — at a little before 6 o’clock, some heard a bang, others saw a flash, and then, lights out. Meanwhile, the street filled with cars and kids, out for hallowe’en treats, most of them hardly noticing that the reason our street was so spooky was that no one had power.
We decorated the front hall with candles (safely stowed in holders) and an old storm lantern that nicely showed off the giant spider shadows on the back wall. Meanwhile, hundreds of kids made their way through the gloom and rain, with glowing pumpkins and lighted walking sticks to guide their way.
By the time power came back on at 7:35 pm, we had given out candy to over 175 young witches, fairies, superheroes, cats, rainbows, angels, ninjas, zombies galore, and at least 8 red riding hoods, both the regular kind and the dead ones.
There was no unrest during the power outage, but two young ninjas were observed swordfighting shortly after lights came on.
Wow, that's a lot more kids
Wow, that’s a lot more kids than we had at the corner of Western and Union and we were fully illuminated! Great work on tally, it was great so many kids persevered the inclement but exciting wind and driving rain.
Halloween
Just down the street we had about 210. We also had power the whole time.
Out of Candy Before 8
I apologize to anyone who came by our house after about 7:45 pm last night. I just flat out goofed and gave the candy away too fast, figuring the turnout would be low given the rain. The turnout might have been lower, but certainly not by much.
A dad in a Red Sox jacket came to our porch and I forgot to say, “How about them Sox!!”
D’OH!
