I’ve been called several times from the “U.S. Government Grant Dept.” in Washington DC, informing me that I have been selected to receive a $7000 grant that I “will never have to pay back”. The callers speak strange English. Not Indian Maybe Philippine.
Be aware!
here we go again
Let me guess: All you need to do is give them your bank account info and they’ll transfer it?
I guess they keep running these because people keep falling for them.
I read about a scam targeting rich people – they get a call and hear a child yelling “mommy, mommy, they have me…” then a mean sounding person gets on the phone and demands ransom. If the person has a child and the child is out somewhere, the parent will often fall for this and stay on the line, wiring cash to the criminal’s account. Later they find that their kids was, indeed, at daycare. Parental fear and surprise of the scam cause them to be fooled by any child’s hysterical screaming.
The scam I always wanted to run was an ad in a national magazine saying “Are you stupid? Do you fall for scams easily? Send $25 for confidential results.” Anyone who sent the money would get a letter saying, yes, you fall for scams.
Tomaidh, thanks for turning
Tomaidh, thanks for turning them down. They’re going to give me your $7,000 on top of mine. I’m so excited.
I keep getting the computer guys who scammed my 85 year old stepdad a few years ago. They’re calling about my windows computer so I just keep them on the phone as long as possible supposedly hitting all the keys on my windows computer (I have a MAC). Might as well keep them from calling somebody more scam-able as long as possible.
I spik well Hinglish
Get it right: It’s “Vindows”, not “Windows”.
