MuseArts Does MuseArts: A New Web Site For A Web Company

There comes a time when your web site starts looking a bit old and out-of-date and it needs a refresh. This is true even if you do web design and development for a living.

Our old site was starting to be an embarrassment. We had let it go while as we did work for others to get their sites looking nice. Eventually it came time for a MuseArts site re-do.

We developed a plan based on what we wanted:  to simplify, to continue to demonstrate what we can do, and to add some fun and animation to the site.

Getting Started

We started by reviewing our old site’s content and realized it might be best to start fresh, to emphasize different things and to show off newer projects in better ways. Some of what we had there would transfer, but much had changed.

A new site outline was needed to organize what we wanted to now feature. The site outline is our guide to all the pages on a site, the content or features to present, and where they will reside.

Once we had developed our outline we began designing a new home page. Our first attempt proved to look exciting and fun, but failed on the simplicity side. It was a bit overdone.  More work was needed to eliminate clutter, but with one draft to look at we had a clear idea of what remained to be done.

We looked at the outline one more time and made some adjustments, moving some items around, and the next version of the homepage we tried was much better.  Simple, fun, and useful. We approve!

Doing the Work

With the revised site outline and an approved homepage, the rest of the site came together easily. We had to design each of the sections and create new site graphics. We had writing to do and search engine details to fine-tune. Everything had to be tested.

This process sounds straightforward and would typically take a few weeks if we were a paying client, but in reality it was a process spread over the course of nearly a year. We’d work on it in our spare time between other work projects.  Our clients always had priority.

A New Web Site

Now that it is complete, we are excited to show off the newest version of our site – MuseArts.com. For fun, try out the before and after images, or play with our logo at the bottom of our About page.
