Strolling of the Heifers has announced three more brown bag lunch events at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden in downtown Brattleboro, to take place during the week of December 16.
Each event is from noon to 1 p.m. and is free, open to the public, and indoors. People are encouraged to bring a lunch from home or a local takeout restaurant, and to enjoy it at one of the River Garden’s café tables.
On Monday, Dec. 16, Scott Hurley performs classical piano. Scott is a student at the Brattleboro Music Center studying with Bruce Griffin. He has produced a CD which he is selling to support his further education as a yoga teacher.
On Tuesday, Dec. 17, horologist Ray Branagan will give a talk about clocks. Branagan has been watching over our community clocks for about 15 years. His clock upkeep includes the Canal Street School clock (which he winds every eight days), the Centre Congregational Church clock, the sidewalk clock on Main Street, the clock at the Brattleboro Retreat and a Northfield, Mass. church clock. He is a toolmaker by trade and has always been interested in instrumentation. Branagan moved to Brattleboro almost 20 years ago when he had a child who attended Austine School, and has been a part of the Common Ground Community Thanksgiving for years.
On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Brattleboro musician Jim Kurty performs. Jim has 39 years of experience as a music teacher and performer, often as a member of a two-piece group with his brother, Tim. For this event, he’ll de downsizing to a one-piece group, consisting of himself on vocals, alto and tenor sax, clarinet and flute, backed up by jazz and karaoke recordings. Kurty will take requests from the audience during his show.
