WALPOLE, NH – The Putney Fossils continued their winning ways Friday night, June 6 with a 7-2 victory over previously undefeated Walpole Wild Blue at Hubbard Park.
Hard throwing Fossils right-hander Danny Lichtenfeld was masterful on the mound, scattering six hits and three walks over eight innings while fanning six and allowing no earned runs. Bob “Bullet” Englehart pitched a perfect ninth to close out the game.
Steve “Sticks” Kapral (2-for-3, double, walk, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Chris Larro (2 hits, run, three 2-out RBIs) led the offense for Putney. Right fielder Brandon Reilly added two hits and two stolen bases. Reilly also turned in the defensive gem of the day – with runners on in the first inning, Walpole slugger Jamie Spence launched a bomb to deep right; Reilly turned, sprinted full speed after the ball, and was able to hang on for the out after crashing headlong into the fence.
Walpole shortstop Gary Dennis pounded out two hits and scored a run for the Wild Blue. Catcher Kaian Wilkes gunned down two would-be base stealers and picked a runner off second base.
Putney is now 5-0 in CRVBL play and will take on the Sunapee Old Lakers in a double header Sunday in Dummerston starting at 1:00 PM. The Wild Blue dropped to 4-1 and will meet the Walpole Maples at Hubbard Park Friday at 6:30 PM.
