CRVBL Playoffs Begin Friday

The Connecticut River Valley Baseball League begins its 2013 postseason Friday night at 6:30 when the Walpole Wild Blue take on the Keene Black Dawgs at the Walpole baseball complex in the first game of a best of three quarterfinal series. Three other series will also be held throughout the weekend. Two of those series begin on Saturday, when the Putney Fossils host the defending champion Claremont Cardinals in a 1:00 p.m. game at Dummerston Field; and the Sunapee Old Lakers take the Newport Polar Bears at 4:30 in Sunapee.

On Sunday, the Chester/Saxtons Crush and the Brattleboro River Rats will play their entire series at Vermont Academy, with the first game set for 10 a.m. with a second game at 1:00. If necessary, a third game will be played at 4:00. Also on Sunday, Walpole and Keene will renew their series at noon at the Walpole complex, with a game three set for 3:00 if needed. Claremont and Putney will take their series to Barnes Park in Claremont Sunday for a possible doubleheader. Game two of that series is scheduled for 11 a.m., with a game three slated for 2:00 if necessary. In Sunapee on Sunday, the Old Lakers and Newport play game two of their series at 11, with a third game scheduled for 2 p.m.

The four series winners will meet in one-game semifinals on Saturday August 17 in Walpole beginning at 1:00 p.m., with the Saturday winners playing each other for the CRVBL Cup the following afternoon.

In the last weekend of regular season action among the local town teams, Walpole took a pair of games, shutting out Claremont, 7-0 and defeating Keene, 10-7. The Putney Fossils beat Brattleboro, 10-2.
