Brattleboro Dog and Wolf-Hybrid Licenses Are Available

BRATTLEBORO DOG AND WOLF-HYBRID LICENSES AVAILABLE

Annual Brattleboro dog and wolf-hybrid licenses are available for the 2025 licensing period. All current dog owners will be mailed a renewal notice in January. To renew an existing dog license, return your payment and renewal notice with updated rabies vaccine information by April 1, 2025.

Effective January 1, 2025, the State is increasing the dog licensing fees by $2 per dog. That money will go directly to the State to fund an animal welfare program.

LICENSING FEES ON OR BEFORE APRIL 1

NEUTERED      $21

UNNEUTERED $25

Specially trained assistance dogs may be eligible for a reduced licensing fee. Reach out to the Town Clerk’s office for more information.

License renewal: Last year, a new option to license dogs was launched through an online portal that can be accessed through the Town’s updated website at https://brattleboro.gov/dog-licensing. Instructions for online renewal will be sent out to all owners of currently licensed dogs in mid-January. However, dog license renewal forms can still be returned in person at the Town Clerk’s office, in the drop box in the Municipal Center parking lot, or through the mail.

Applying for new license: If this is the first time a dog is being licensed in Brattleboro, owners must provide proof of current rabies vaccination from a veterinarian or clinic. New licenses may be applied for online through the portal or a New Animal License paper application, which is available athttps://brattleboro.gov/dog-licensing or at the Town Clerk’s office may be submitted. If proof of spay and neuter is not printed on the rabies certificate, dog owners can submit an additional certificate for proof. If proof of spay and neuter is not provided, the unneutered fee applies.

Dog and wolf-hybrids licensed after April 1 will be charged a penalty. In addition, any person failing to license a dog or wolf-hybrid may be fined up to $100 and the dog or wolf-hybrid may be impounded. If an animal licensed last year has died or been given away, please contact the Town Clerk’s office at

802-251-8157 or townclerk@brattleboro.gov, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vermont dog and wolf-hybrids 6 months of age and older must be licensed annually on or before April 1, and a current, unexpired rabies vaccination is required, according to Vermont State Statute Title 20. Owners, please check that the rabies vaccination is not expired before sending a payment. An animal is not considered licensed without proof of unexpired rabies vaccination and a payment.

Thank you,

Hilary
