Beloved Holton Home Cat Missing Since October 15th!

Pumpkin has been a long term resident of Holton Home on Western Avenue, where he has been a great source of joy to all those who live there.

Sadly he went missing on October 15th.

Pumpkin is an adult male short- haired orange tabby. He is extremely friendly and frequently travels through the surrounding neighborhoods. If you have found him or seen in your neighborhood please call 254 4155 or email Cindy@HoltonHome.org

I thought I saw this guy yesterday. I looked out the kitchen window and saw a very ragged, beat-up looking homeless sort of cat that almost fit the description and looked much like the photo.

We coaxed it to the porch easily and gave it some food and water. It looked tired and happy to be able to rest and warm up, obviously out on the streets for a while. No tags. a bit of white on the paws but mostly honey-brown

I called Holton Home and we had two really nice folks come over to see if it was Pumpkin. It wasn’t, alas, which means two missing cats rather than one reunion. Pumpkin is a bit more orange than the photo shows.

    Worth a try.

We brought the cat in for a while to figure out what to do, and needed up taking it over to the Humane Society so it could get nourishment, medical attention, etc.

So, if you are missing a very sweet honey-colored tabby – now somewhat boney, thin, and worn out but otherwise OK, call the Humane Society. (If you are looking for a sweet pet, too, an adoption might be able to be arranged.)

And, Pumpkin is still missing, so keep an eye out.

  • The sory of Pumpkin!

Pumpkin, has the most interesting history which I will share. Pumpkin began hanging around the Holton Home about 7 years ago, he also took up residency with three other households in the area. He had three homes and three names. I called him Calvin, one couple called him Marmalade and the third person called him Pumpkin, which was actually his given name.
When he first arrived we thought he was a stray and all of us who were looking out for him agreed that we should take him to the humane society so he could find a permanent home. We all loved him, however, we all had jealous cats and were unable to adopt him. I volunteered, to take him to the humane society but he disappeared and we assumed that he had gone home. All of a sudden one morning, much to my delight, there he was asleep in chair on my porch. When I went outside he stood up and greeted me and asked if his breakfast was ready… Calvin was back.
I was relieved to see him, but I began to wonder if he had a home. I decided that before I took him to the humane society I would check around to be certain he was actually a stray or had he been just trying to trick us. I went to the pet store and bought him a collar and a shiny silver engraved tag which read “My name is Calvin if you find me please call.” He agreed to wear the tag and sauntered down my driveway onto his next adventure.
I waited for the phone to ring, two days, three days, four days no call and Calvin was still sporting his name tag. On the fifth day I arrived home and Calvin was not in my yard and there was a message on my answering machine, “Hello my name is Liz and your cat Calvin is actually our cat Pumpkin.” I called his owner and she said that they lived on West Street and that ever time they let him out he would travel through the woods and head up to the Holton Home and be gone for days on end.
After months of this behavior the Holton Home formally adopted him. The elderly residents there loved him and I hear that he favored an elderly gentleman and slept on his bed until he died. Pumpkie continued to maintain his other three households. He would visit each of us all most daily. There were food bowls for him on the porches of each house and he actually had his own bedroom at one house. The last time I saw pumpkie he was hunting in my back yard. I sat quietly and watched him never imaging it would be the last time I would see him. We miss you….

    • Great reflections

Sounds like the type of cat that could have been “adopted” by someone nearby, and also that if he got out he’d make his way around to one or more of the places he knows and likes.

Let’s hope someone took him in… and finds out he’s wanted at H. Home.

    Unfortunately one has seen him!

  • Yesterday was National Cat

Yesterday was National Cat Day… I hadn’t heard of it before. Cats are great and should be celebrated.

    • Pumpkin come home

I’m hoping, for all involved, that Pumpkin shows up soon. A friend’s cat disappeared for 6 weeks, then one night just showed up. I’ll keep a hope out that Pumpkin’s on a vacation and will be home this weekend.
